I operate an entertainment based blog with funny and sexy photos etc, and adsense had been displaying ads which matched my content resulting in a 1.7% click through rate and great revenue. but for the past few days adsense has been displaying ads about living trusts, wills, flowers, and other such things which have absolutely nothing to do with my website and my click through ratio has dropped to 0.35%. this is an unbelievable drop and it's hurting me like nothing else. is there anyway i can fix this? i try adding the urls to my blocked ads page but there's just too many and i'm guessing that's a pretty poor way to force adsense to serve user targeted ads. i don't understand why the ads have changed all of a sudden, does anyone have any suggestions?
i've had several sites of this nature up for several years now using adsense. it's nothing pornish, there is nsfw content though. and google serves ads with "russian nude dating" right next to my content. regardless, now they're serving ads about flowers and my visitors aren't interested in flowers.
The fact that Google shows nudie ads is no guarantee...Google has no problems ADVERTISING such sites, just not displaying ads ON those sites
I have a theory that Google does certain things to make sure your ctr is legit such as sending ads that should drop your ctr. Im thinking it will go back to normal in a few days. For awhile I was getting really strange ads.
I see that sometimes when the sam eset of ads run on different pages even if those opages are not really related. However, it normally sorts itself out very quickly. Maybe you have a different problem.
i read something about using these tags and placing the relevant content inbetween: <!-- google_ad_section_start --> <!-- google_ad_section_end --> the guy i read about it from said it didn't work for him when placed in the body but it did when it sandwhiched the header. problem is i have over 20,000 pages on my site. i can add it with a universal php include into the body and i'd have to hide the text. but the headers are all unique and would require page by page editing.
you know what that's a very intelligent comment, i was thinking the same thing because i recently tweaked my content using tips from this forum and it did cause a spike. hopefully this is true and it will go back to normal very soon.
I use to display google ads on a site for children with special needs, but google kept displaying ads for Gay and Mens Magazines. I got quite a few complaints, I tried blocking the specific ads, but didnt make a difference so I had to remove them. On my proxy topsite the ads were for unblocking drains and constipation. So the CTR was very poor.
by the way, exactly how strict is google concerning the content of their publishers? i've been with them several years and haven't had a problem, i assumed it was because i didn't run a pornish site. but there's nudity
I think a lot depends upon the mood of the google employee who reviews your site. Yours may not have even been seen yet by anyone at google. If you've got nudity, I suspect you're in violation.
wow gay ads on a kids site, makes you wonder if google software doesn't sometimes just pick ads out of a digital hat
i'm using adbrite too, but google is usually triple that. as of this typing, today's adbrite revenue is ahead of google by a small margin.
The fact about not putting all your eggs in one basket YES. Finaly more people should talk about that. Adbrite i never like that much and some other ones pay lower but you can always have affiliate links that pay good on your site. Think about it most adsense ads are for affiliate links. If they do not make good money they would not pay for the ads. Url on keywords and adsense code to customize tags. Has good ideas how to make adsense show ads you want with tags. http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=259536
try to put this code between your adsense code for better targetting: <!------------ google ad section start -------------> <!-- relevant keywords start --> <!-- relevant keywords end ---> <!-- google adsense code start --> <!-- google adsense code end --> <!------------ google ad section end --------------> it works for me everytime.
