Lorien, the article talks about THREE seconds:

Besides how long does it take everytime a Youtube video loads? Perhaps in that meantime you can see a short ad which you may even be interested in... And if you ain't then everyone can look away...

Doesn't sounds like such a big deal to me!

A lot, that's why you want it to be faster without any crappy ads.

I can't believe I'm wasting my time responding to this. My answer is short, how do you expect Youtube to pay their workers if they don't make money? Do you want everyone who works there to work for free just to make you happy? That is greed, you're probably too blind to see that though. And I'm a money whore because I think revenue sharing is a good idea, that's hilarious because I don't even upload videos. The reason I think it's a good idea is because Youtube is a community website, and it's a kind gesture for Youtube to give back to it's community.

In my opinion, I don't think it will be adsense. They will probably copy MetaCafe where you basically get $5 for every 1,000 views on a video.

Its one of three options. What are the other 2? 5 seconds? 10 seconds? This is like a tax, it'll never get shorter, it only get longer. I don't care if youtube does this really; but it will make youtube less fun to link to - first off, and will make it harder to view lots of videos in a short period of time. youtube already has a crappy caching system that is deathly slow at times.

Its google's business model and it can do what it wants. I'm sure its looked at the positives and negatives. I just don't think its the best option, but their choice.

Yes, I know it's not. But that's not really my problem. Google paid too much for it (I think that's obvious) and I think this will alienate the user base.

It will only alienate the users who are too thick to realize this was a long time coming. Unfortunately that's probably about 95% of Youtube's base judging by the comments I've read on the site.

Checksum: If you can't belive you are wasting your time posting here, then why are you still posting?
Do you have an disease like OCD? Whats up with you wanting to backup this idea, whats your plan?

And I don't care if you call me gready, I really don't give a shit. You are missing the point right now, YouTube is supposed to be a free site.
Ads is not free, its like making people sign up paid offers for free stuff! Then its not free, because free means no obligation.

And I can't get I'm wasting my time on a stubborn idiot guy like you either, so this is basically the last thing I'll write because you are to stupid to understand that what I want is not money but a place for people to have fun, and I know that you just want to earn money from internet but some people actually want to have internet as a free place for everyone but some gready people like you never learns.

Oh I gotcha. And you have a point, which makes my point for me. I think this is the same problem myspace faces though. The need for revenue and a way to do it without scaring away your core audience.

I love this as an advertiser. Video will be a cool new medium to experiment with. Combined with Google Newspaper and Radio advertising, it gives smaller advertisers access to traditional media types.
