First time poster long time reader and dreamer, for the last year or so I have been reading about SEO and do hang out and read a lot in the forums but I have decided this year to get off the side lines and make SEO a hobbie. I still class my self new to the topic of SEO and affiliate marketing and still learn some thing new every day through forums and blogs and books. What I through would be good is to form a small group of other like minded people but who where geographic local eg in Australia who could share support and conservation not only through forums posts here but trough email voip or even the Australian way of life over a cold beer but if any one else is not local and wants to join then as long as your happy to play for your plane ticket to the bar that's fine with me.
I'd be all about it - but I'm here in Brisbane. That said a nice little group had recently got in contact with me and invited me to join them. There are definitely a few Aussie events and meetings happening from time to time so they would be a good place to network, but I can't speak for any small group networking down in Sydney. You best bet would probably be to attend some SEO or online marketing conference. I started a thread about getting some info on such things: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=143732 Also there is an active thread here that is full of Aussies, I don't know how active they all are in SEO, Affiliate Marketing and AdSense though - but I'm sure a couple of quick PMs would solve that question: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=120844 Best of luck - let me know how you go. Oh and for the record if there are any people from Brisbane or the surrounding areas that are interested in doing something similar I could be up for it.
Thanks Burta it was some of your posts that sort of gave me the kick to get off my arse and get things moving. I did enjoy reading all 9 pages of your last big post well done for what you have achieved. As always I should have searched a little bit more on the forum and found the post for the shout out to all Australians I will send a few Pm’s. While the group was designed just for beginners I guess as the SEO market on DP for Australians is quite small every one is welcome but I just feel that that you would be on such a higher level than every one else that t might not be of any use but saying that I am sure that ever now and again you pick up on little gems that you had not through about before :- P Would be great if at the next StealthCon we could all meet up.
Firstly - I'm glad you got some motivation out of some of my posts, and taking action is exactly what you should be looking to do and collaborating with some other establsoihed and up and coming SEOs and online marketers is a great first step! Secondly I don't put myself in the position of being in "such a high level that it wouldn't be of any use". I'm still just one guy and there is TONS of value in meeting up with people of fellow interest, even if for no other reason than being a group of 5 - 10 people that is 5 - 10 eyes that browse the web everyday. That is 5 - 10 chances of someone stumbling upon a lucrative opportunity and being able to share it with the group. I mean an individual has a very finite amount of information that can be stored, and I'd honestly say these days when I browse the web looking for the latest revelations 95% of what I read is either rehashed stuff that I have read and know very well or stuff that is just dribble and padding that at best brings a smile to your face or even a laugh as you read someone's blog. So increasing my chances of cutting straight to what is important is of HUGE value. And that is where you are right - I look for little gems. That is why paying $20 - $30 for an ebook or book from Amazon may be filled with 99% information that you already know or can be found on forums like DP can still be worth it. That 1% can be worth thousands - and to be honest that 1% is normally the tip that is worth thousands, because it is the tip that not many want to share because they are making a killing with it. Whilst I probably won't be down at the Sydney StealthCons (seeing there is one up here in Brisbane plus another group I'm planning to attend reguarly) if you stick with it and start making some inroads into your own online ventures I'm sure we will end up crossing paths at one point - the Australian SEO community just isn't THAT big. Oh and from what I have picked up so far nor is it really that experienced or contains many "experts" either, but that is just from an outsiders view that hasn't really had a big chance to mingle just yet. So if you are worried you might be "out of your depth" don't be - if you have it to DP and have been looking around here for awhile chances are you are probably ahead of the game - at least that is the impression I get. Anyway best of luck with it all - let us know how it goes.
