Ebay Contextual Ads Script

    Hi,

I have been searching for days for a script similar to this one here iourl.com it generates ebay ads that look allot like google adsense ads.

I want the script to use on my own domain as this site may go offline or turn off ads or anything else and it is more secure to have the ads server from my own domain.

Anyone who can point me in the right direction i will appreciate it.

I don't see anything from eBay on that site. That's using Amazon affiliate. I think what you're talking about is the eBay editor kit (FYI.. that's not contextual). You put in a search term and it fetches auctions based off of you criteria.

Here is a listing of ebay tools that you can include in your site:

If you use that site they probably insert their own PID, at least some of the time. And there is no telling what else they might do. Those kind of scripts make me nervous unless they are run by a (presumably) trusted source like G or Y! Just go directly to the eBay Editor Kit or use the Flexible Destination Tool http://affiliates.ebay.com/tools/linking/

I read from somewhere before, they show their PID 50% of time to keep the service free.

For offering this type of service for free, what percentage do you guys think would be fair -- for them to use their own PID??? 50% is not fair - although I could not find this information anywhere on their site.

I ask this because I am considering coding this and offering the service for free, (but with a much more fair rate) on my site? I have written various compiled programs that use the ebay API - and I have worked with SOAP XML. I was thinking that 1 out of every 10 using my PID seems really fair, but there is always the possibility that (if it gets a lot of use) it will grow beyond my current server's capabilities.

I have spent time researching this because I have been wanting to produce my own "skyscraper" containing various ebay items - as I see fit (using keywords and categories). The selection and layout of the various ads that you can produce using the Editor Kit (EK) are not to my liking. I want more control over showing snapshots as well as text in a limited width skyscraper. I have yet to write any code, but it has been one of those things that I've been wanting to get around to doing.

If I pretty much create 90% of this service for my needs --- doesn't it make sense if I could add a way for others to use it - and get a few ¢'s for it? Of course, we'd draw up our terms of service - and make it clear that we'd use our PID 10% (or whatever percentage) of the time.

I'd really think that I could claim the ideas that I stated here as my own -- let's see who has it developed first and for less money, eh?

If you are interested in testing out the initial eBay customization form, PM me for the development URL and a chance to help make this tool the BEST one out there.

This is very near release now. I am interested in offering a free subscription package to a couple BETA testers.

The ads can be either by a specific query, or as a context-sensitive ad that scans your page for keywords and uses those instead. If no items match any particular query, we display the alternate items that have returned from other recent queries. Also, we've got several choices for rounded corners.

If you actively participate in a BETA test period of up to a month, you would have your choice of membership at either:
    full year's Silver
    9 months of Gold
    4 months of Platinum.

In order to properly test, you may need to have access to making new test pages that include the HTML ad code.

I can only offer this deal to a few BETA testers - if you are still interested, I may extend the deal to a few more than 3.

The BETA testing period is over (and a special thanks to my helpers!!) We've been very busy during the last couple weeks to finalize the release of our ad service - and now it is live! See my post in the advertising section here (http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=504431).

You can basically create any ad size you want. You can leave the search query blank for a content-sensitive ad or specify the keywords to use for the search. Furthermore, you can limit the results to a specific eBay seller(s).

Membership is very cheap in the program - the most expensive plan is only $25 per year with 99% of commissions earned, but there have been so many improvements to the basic ad that you are almost guaranteed to get more clicks. The free plan only earns you 90% of the commission, but due to the improvements, it you'd still probably profit more than using an eBay affiliate who uses their Editor Toolkit.

Some improvements include the trick that makes the whole region a link using javascript onclick for the table cell -- meaning that you don't have to click the link to cause a click. Another big improvement is the use of bold for any keywords that match. A small attractor for clicks is the display of the first 120 or so characters from the items' description on mouse-over. Finally, the look and feel should be able to be customized for maximum clicks.

The ads really look like they fit in. For example, I have placed these ads on my software site in the sidebar :: http://betterwindowssoftware.com/. For an example of a content sensitive ad, one of the better examples is http://betterwindowssoftware.com/products-2203.html. Admittedly, a software download site is not the best place to scrape for keywords since the keywords are slightly specialized and contain many instances of "freeware" which is kind of rare on eBay. If you want to test which keywords your page would use for our system, you can test your page URL with http://auctionreporting.com/test_keywords.html.
