Remember that building too many links at once can be detrimental for google rankings as it is seen as spam, pr 0 and pr 1 sites shouldn't be building more than 400 links per month absolute max. Generally a good place to start is to do a google search "your topic blogs" where 'your topic" is something relating to the site you are building links to.
I just want to correct you: link building help the website rank for some keywords which drive ORGANIC traffic. So, RANKING (not link building) is the methods to drive traffic to your website.
^ mmm I have to partially disagree and here is why. You could build a no-follow backlink from a site that gets huge traffic and your site will get a cut out of all that traffic.. now did that particular link help you rank? most likely not but you did get some traffic! .. thats the thing with link building, you can't underestimate backlinks just because they may not directly improve your serp rankings.... more often than not u have to balance traffic vs ranking in your link building campaigns.
