Suggestion Ignore posts by country of writer

I would like a feature where I can check off certain parts of the world, and I won't see their posts anymore. I feel as though this would eliminate 98% of the posts I would rather not be reading.

Well, that seems a little harsh. :p That's kinda like your inner-racist speaking. LOL Unfortunately though, nope, there isn't such a feature & I doubt one would be implemented. :)

Just ignore users individually, you can't, after all, generalize a whole country by how some (or most) users from that country post. :) But I totally get you, I have my anti-*specific country here* days too (but usually I narrow my hatred down to those who are just SO stupid, the unfunny who think they are funny -do you see those joke posts that are NOT funny?-, & the "can't speak English" bunch. I don't necessarily address it towards the whole country lol, but yes sometimes that cannot be avoided)..

But, as long as a person can manage a decent post in decent English grammar, I don't care which country that user's from. :)

I fully agree with Love..we should not use filter based on country(Its looks a kind of racial discrimination).we should concern more on quality of topics and not users or countries. For any spam or unwanted posting mods are here to delete or close the topics.
so in my view this feature should not be implemented.

I'd quite like to eliminate 98% of the n00bs here that make bone threads.
Sadly, that too isn't an option!

    Huh??? You normal ???

If that option is available , then i would immediately want to add your country in my ignore list. But that means I cannot read posts and threads by many other posters who are from your country which is not that great an idea.

    //I have a suggestion

/*Please create a system which can dynamically compute the IQ level and physical/ mental fitness of the poster who is making a post and if the value passes the threshold, you can allow the post to be posted, else it can be deleted.*/

This will help reducing posts like the one started by the OP and also replies like some allegedly intelligent guys like the one making this post.

You from United Kingdom ????

I wouldn't mind having an optional white list of only North America, Australia and the EU.

That should eliminate the following topics entirely:

    - How to make $5

    - Running business online really possible?

    - Getting away with running a movie piracy site.

    - Non webmaster BS (taking 3 cent surveys, etc...).

    - Paid sigwhores.

    I'm from the USA.

In this case he wants to select people by region/ country and that would be in millions. Also, he estimates to filter 98% of the users. So, an INVERT SELECTION kinda option would be what he wants to be implemented.:p

[Ignore this if you did not use the word white to indicate "color"]

So not only you want to filter members by country but also do you want to filer them by their color? One advice: if you ever come to Chicago, abstain from saying things like that if you're alone...specially if your traveling to the South Side :) I am American and some Americans do stuff here for $5 too...in case you've not come across them yet.

However, I do understand your concerns...at least partly.

Or the report function as noted by three people in this thread who didn't notice that I was already doing that:

    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1544030

Hmmm, minimal IQ. Now there's an idea....

As an aside, the limit by country wouldn't work as 1) it;s too easy to get around by proxy and 2) those country lists still list my IP as from somewhere in South Korea I believe and I'm here in the Good Old South USA where our heros only know how to make left hand turns. ;)

So u think that only non-USA,Aus,EU members make posts like that here? I have come across many american members willing to work their ass off dirt cheap here.

Going by your logic I should be having pity on the american education system for producing such a "genius". But hey, I know that its got nothing to do with your country and there are many excellent and nice members here from there ... and may be it is just your born "talent"..

EDIT : I want a feature to Ignore idiotic threads like this! ;-)

It's not really about what is being said. It has more to do with the outlook of those who are saying it.

An American noob for instance can show up saying ridiculous things, but there is a realistic chance that in 3-5 years they will be making great money. This however is nearly impossible for people with a language and cultural barrier between them and western world money.

I won't get too specific as not to offend too much, but there is one country well represented here where doctors make the equivalent of $6,000 USD per year. Think about that for a second. All webmasters in that country have to do is average just $16.44 per day and they are living in the same class level as a doctor. That is an amazing opportunity, yet pretty much none of them can pull it off. Again, because of cultural differences.

So what I'm saying is that at some point it becomes just pathetic and you want to look away from them the same way you ignore the bums hanging around outside of sports events.

Well, there's no way to sugarcoat it is there? :)
What I basically got from what you said is that you just don't wanna interact with people who are of a lower class than you.. which kinda interprets it as you seeing yourself better than others (the 98% you were referring to, whom you didn't wanna bother with). :) Like I said, no way to sugarcoat it.

While I do understand where you;re coming from and I understand the points being raised here, I do see my router and firewall logs and see certain countries with a rating over 98% "bad" traffic. Bad meaning getting caught by our antispam solution, the firewalls noting a hack attempt, DDoS or the like. One country which shall remain nameless [edit: constantly] pegs at 100%.

And being on a number of antispam mailing lists, others have noted this as well.

    It really is tempting.

    Sorry. Being honest.

No, this is not a class issue for me.

Just today you posted the following suggestion: "Is there a way to minimize or limit country/region-specific posts that only a certain country/region are able to relate to?"

This is pretty much what I am also getting at, only I am further reaching because I view a wider array of posts in that manner than you do.

When someone from a developing nation ends up here asking how to make money online, that is not something that the western world can relate to. It isn't just a matter of learning new skills. If they have not experienced long term immersion in western culture, running the type of sites that we run is going to be nearly impossible.

On the other hand if a lower class American shows up asking how to make money online, there are a lot of different options to build upon. That just isn't the case for citizens of developing nations, and frankly, it's a waste of everyone's time to even try to help them.

Scary, but I totally get your point now. But yeah, I doubt such a feature is gonna be implemented. But from what you just said in your post, I can clearly see it's nothing racist - nor is it a class issue, t'was my mistake. :)
