Rules Ban on sight "WHo's the best/ cheapest host?" threads

    Greets:

Half serious/ half in jest but I think banning the "Who has the best/cheapest hosting?" threads is something to consider. I count no less than 6 new ones within the last 24 hours, many of them answered with "See my sig for coupons" and "pm me for coupons or deals" and "See this review which is nothing but my masked affiliate links" posts as replies.

Plus there are other hosts out there besides hostgator.

    Thanks,
    -drmike

I suggest using the *Report* button located in the top right hand corner where your post count is located. This will then bring these sorts of things, to the mods attention.

    +1 for that.

Although perhaps not a "ban". In Forum Management topics such as "Which is the best: phpBB, SMF or vBulletin" are locked on sight. Not sure why the same couldn't be applied to the hosting section. :)

Or you get topics like this "How to get free host at hostgator, NO COST!!!! ": http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1533980

Then the guy tells someone to go to their site or pm them for an affiliate link + coupon. I've reported this topic before but I guess it's allowed?

    You must be new. :)

The mods will tell you that I'm "Report Happy."

So have I and have to admit that I'm not seeing any resolution to these. I realize that the mods are a tad behind (They've hinted a couple of times recently.) so therefore I made this post.

What about "free wordpress themes" threads in freebies section?
Almost half of the freebies sections is filled with this useless &#*!!
I have two or three sites on wordpress but I am not so crazy about changing there themes everyday.
Plus I can find these on google whenever I want.
Why not have a sticky "No wordpress themes allowed"??

Because at least those are different. They're usually a designer offering their own work for use. Granted it's probably copied from elsewhere or built around a different theme but at least an attempt has been made.

edit: Oh lookie. Another one: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1544985 At least he or she is assuming that their post is against the rules.

IMO, No need to post new thread to report every rules violation you see, That's why we have report icon on every post.

Yes, It will take time. But that's the procedure in this forum. Surely, Moderators will handle it as immediately as they can.

A quick check of this thread shows that I didn't report any rule violation but yet made an observation and a suggestion.

I realize that actually reading the thread one posts in seems to be an alien concept for many around here. I do hope you will also consider this a suggestion.

As far as I know "see my sig" or "pm me for info" type posts are not allowed anyway certainly in the domain section, not sure if this applies to all B/S/T sections too. As cameljourney said, just report any posts you think are not allowed (many are probably not)

The irony of this is the user is doing the same thing:

    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1551563

Which I believe I mentioned is already being done.
