I believe, there is no relation; however I'm not an expert.

Think, you have a domain, a 4-5 page site is with it. All pages are nofollow. This is too odd. Let's take it a bit general. Nobody worked to optimize the website for search engines. It got no backlinks ( 4-5 link should be there always, anyhow), noone visited the site since last 4-5 years. No traffic, no popularity. May be it's a 10 years' old domain. What can google do for it?

Yes, domain age has a lot to do with ranking in Google search.
No, domain age has little to do with Google Page Rank
A good tool for this is one of these Firefox extensions.

Google definitely gives preferential treatment to older domains. It's easier to rank an older domain than a brand new one. This is fact.

I wouldn't say it has a LOT to do with rankings. I would say it has a LITTLE to do with it... There are almost NO ranking factors that have a LOT to do with rankings... In fact, inbound links are about the only thing that has a LOT to do with rankings (and sometimes <title> optimization). Most other ranking factors are very minor in comparison to inbound links.

In SEO, there is seldom one thing that makes a lot of difference in how you rank. Improving a single ranking factor typically makes very little or no difference in your rankings. To see real movement in rankings you typically have to make changes to lots of ranking factors... It's many improvements taken as a whole that will make substantial changes in how your URL ranks.

Keep in mind that good give highest priority to your site content. Domain age, PR , backlinks are other Factors to get SERP. If your site have unique content then your site will get top 5 ranking and later on it will automatically updated to no 1. Google now tracking the activities of its users and trying to analys which site is better according to the users behaviour.

It has been my experience over the past 7 or 8 years that Google and other search engines definitely give some preference to older domains.

I agree. Often (but not always), I'm experiencing this. Direct URLs in Google Search Results are not shown. Rather URLs are from Google.com with number of query strings appended.

I believe that new domains are penalised by Google - so yes there is a connection between domain age and Google ranking.

I must say it does help.

If the domain expiry is less than a year, it may look like it is made fore re-sell purpose.

Domain with longer expiry date gets better ranking in SERP in google.

I have personally test this on my blog and shared the details on this thread.

But, I must say that it does not plays an important role in google ranking system.

Backlinks are the most important part in ranking system.

I have also read, as what many people have said, that domain age influences rank. I believe it does also. I have also heard that the length of time, 1 yr, 2 yr, 3 yr..... etc also has effect on you rank. I heard the longer you have your domain name renewed, such as for 10 years, will positively influence your ranking. Just what I've heard.

Domain age is a good contributing factor. I have had a test going on for about 5 months now with two of my sites. It seems the one which was registered for 2 more years than the other performed better. Not by a huge margin but my 25-35 position in SERP
