The most important rule is to build a Web site about something you enjoy. If you do it solely for the money, you'll become frustrated quickly since Adsense revenue is like farming; first you have to plant the seeds, then water daily with fresh, interesting, and unique content, and build backlinks with other sites. Only then will you reap the financial rewards. It's a journey, not a destination.

If you're really serious, I'd purchase your own domain name and get some cheap hosting to start with. Once your site is ready for public consumption, apply for an Adsense account and use that account on as many different sites as you wish to create. Good luck to you!

it's better if you buy webspace and domain to host your site because you can take full control of it. or if you don't have the budget, you can start with writing a blog (get a free blogger account). you can use your adsense code in every sites of yours, just make sure that it doesn't violate the TOS.

If there is any advice I can give..... MAKE SURE the name you give your site is relevant and a great SEO Keyword. I regret the name of my main site because I know it could have done so much better with a better name. So, if your site is about articles, make sure you call it "ArticleCentral.com" or something like that. That is your first step... I know it sounds silly, but, so many people don't follow this. Good Luck!

I develop for a good sized, revenue producing site for my day job, and create sites on the side. My best piece of advice is to turn off the computer and take a piece of paper and pencil write down what you want to accomplish. Once you get an idea, start storyboarding how you want pages to look.

I lay everything out on an organizational chart. Home page being at the top, major pages branching out and so on.

I hope this helps you out. Trust me it will save you a lot of time in the long run. Also, read the DP forums, they are a wealth of infromation.

On a related note, I'm developing an article site with the domain name ArticleOnRamp.com.

I'll like to add my 2 cents.

I live in panama city panama (best known as part of the 3rd world)... what i wanna say with that is... my cash is extremetly limitated... i earn less than 10K yearly... and i am an electric engineer.... so you could deduct my live kinda sucks....

Honestly I have no site now.... I have been working on an idea an like this guy said.... is now on paper.. working on the process to put it on the servers.
I know about websites and stuff because i like it and i read a lot... in fact.. i'm not a programer, but i had some proyects with companies building specialized pieces of web based software.... (just if you don't feel good taking advice from someone without a business website)

    here they are....
    1. invest 10 bucks and buy a domain.... in goddady.com a domain cost less than 10 bucks per year
is recomended to make the domain short and relevant bla bl abl a......
    2. look for a free hosting to start with... many free hosting companise only ask you to put a banner,.... and they offer a good package (up to 1 gb of space bla bla bla)... for no cost.
www.awardspace.com offers 200mb free no forced ads,.... it means you have 200 mb for free... mysql database and upgrades are an option.... you could build something with a pretty decent grow chances with one of this free package on awardspace; then... when you get some cash... look for a shared linux server...
www.phpwebhosting.com offers you unlimited space; unlimited pop email and a lot of unlimited shit for les than 10 bucks monthly.
there are also others hosting companies with really good packages for a bargain... just keep looking.
also.. you may do as i did once... had one main account for the sites... another free account in other server for file transfers (like mp3) and a third one for the database linking each other
    3. Make sure the grafic design is simple... but good looking... I mean.. .dont try to make something psicodelic or shit just because you wanna make an impresion... no matter what kind of audience you are targeting... try to keep it simple an clear to the eyes.... if you wanna go fancy.... do it, but my advice is to keep clear and simple.
    4. Use a CMS (content managemetn system) if posible... Offcourse it depends if the site content will be dynamic or not... but i recomend to use a CMS... It helps to improve the maintenance.... and you'll have no need to learn html, php or others.
      my advice... try mambo/joomla

    Regards

Yes, definately go with ownhosting. Free hosting can become a source of frustration as soon as your site starts getting a bit of traffic.

You can get a decent host for a few dollars a month. You might want to check out the thread I started in another forum here.

    Hi Susan,

    1. the first and the foremost thing which is already mentioned here is Get your own domain name and PLEASE GET YOURSELF A PAID HOSTING AND A RELIABLE ONE. use bluehost.com they give you 1 domain free with 15 GB of webspace for 100$. Its a great thing and the reliability is high.
    2. Get at least 500 Odd pages of website content and make sure taht the content is relevent to the site's Domain name and of course your interest. why 500 pages? The more pages, the better cos you are on showing ads on the page and goog likes it if you have OPTIMIZED PAGES. You can get good content from any of the ezines. You will need to pick the latest content
    3. Get your site fully optimized. Find how by going to Brad callens website . I you can search it out on google for keyword Brad Callen.
    4. Submit a google sitemap. Search Google for Google Sitemap.
    5. This could be expensive but if you can afford it, Get a domain name already available which is old and has a PAge rank. You can see expiring domains on pool.com and sites alike. this is expensive but worth an investment (At least on a later stage)
    6. HAVE PATIENCE. Rome was not built in a day and you will not see results in one day. You will need to wait at least 3 months without changing anything but step 7
    7. Get links to your site from relevant sites . Avoid Reciprocal as much as possible. They are not worth the effort. Make sure you have at least 100 Links every month to your site.

If you implement all these tips alone... you will make an easy 30-40 $ on most topics you choose...(Dont get your topic too hard to compete. Compete for Golf Clubs or Golf Equipments instead of Golf itself)

I'd suggest that you think very good about the hosting solution. OK if you decided to go with a free one, and just for the record I wouldn't do that as it's too limiting in many ways, but if all limitations and ads don't worry you, you could start with it -- or -- at least start building your website to see how it will look like etc. and that's how you will find out what you will need for a hosting solution. And that I believe is the biggest problem when choosing a hosting solution - that you don't have a clue about what you need. Do you need enough databases or enough of something else? For example you may find a hosting solution that draws you with a lot of bandwidth and webspace but then it limits you to only 1 MySQL database. Then you start building your website and realize that and it's more expensive paying to use another MySQL database than paying for a gigabyte of bandwidth.

Databases are used for things like forums, content management systems (CMS), mailing lists etc.
