I have removed the COOP from all of my websites

Discussion in 'Co-op Advertising Network' started by joeychgo, Jul 9, 2006.

Yup, I said it. I have removed the COOP from all of my websites.

    Why? A number of reasons.

I once had COOP weight of considerably over 100,000. I have less then 3,000 today, including referral weight.

I have a number of referrals. Not a single one of them has over 350 in total weight (of which I get 10%). This once accounted for over 20k in COOP weight. This tells me it isnt just my sites that are taking a hit.

I have suggested over and over that the coop needs to be revamped. Ultimately, it seems my suggestions have been ignored. Further, I dont really see any meaningful discussion from Shawn on this subject, which is what really bothers me.

One such example: Renewed Suggestion - Change COOP Weight Forumula

Many sites are dropping thier indexed pages and their rankings. I dont know how much of this has to do with the coop, but I know there is no value for me in running the coop at the present time.

The COOP was once a valuable tool. It can be again, but it cannot be ignored. The COOP needs to change and evolve in order to remain helpful.

Im sorry Shawn, but I think you have left the COOP go without revision too long. If you dont act soon and make some changes to how it operates, I believe it will become harmful then helpful.

I completely agree. It's unfortunate but it's the truth.

Yes - I can only hope Shawn comes around to this way of thinking.

I'm new to COOP, but then i read your post, i think i might need to temporarily disable them and put them back until the issue is resolved.

Just to add I removed coop about a week ago from all my sites also.

But that was because my sites that used it got booted from the SERPs.

    I'm in a similar situation.

Did your sites regain their positions after you removed the co-op? How long did it take?

What people might not understand is. If everyones weight "score" drops, which they are, then you still have the same chunk of the pie and in effect the same power regardless of the number.

    Think about it.

If 10 people have a weight score of 5,000

    then

10 people have a weight score of 2,500

    it's exactly the same thing.

That's not my problem, my issue here is that Shawn reports that page rank and number of api pages represent weight.

Yet it doesn't make any sense, and some are low for no apparant reason - the pie is distorted. Hell I had 4,033,735 weight on the 22nd June, today I have 2,705,523.

    That kinda sucks, doesn't it?

But if people are losing indexed pages - the links on those pager are meaningless as far as google is concerned. If the page isnt indexed, the links on it are not counted.

Oh - thanks for the red rep whoever gave it to me. :) Sorry my post bothered you to that extent.

If everybody lost the same proportion of weight we would be fine. The issue is that google has broken the site: command. Some people are fully indexed, some people are not indexed and some are supplemental. Until google fixes itself the coop will not work as intended.

Its about time people stopped waiting for google to fix itself. The link: command never got fixed so why should anything else?

Yeah,m but Ive had indexed page drops before - but never on every site at once. This is combined with a dramatic drop in the google serps for ALL sites.

Many are of the belief that Google is broken. They have been broken too long to be broken (does that make sense?). My opinion is this is exactly what should be happening according to G engineers. With the new 'broken Google'...

    1) Most spammers are handcuffed now.
    2) Artificial link schemes are being detected and scaring the daylights out of many users that appear to DROP out of Google.

I'd say they are on target with their agenda. Once we realize that Google has, without doubt, nailed the networks, then it will be up to Shawn whether it continues (with necessary changes) or not. I have no doubt that all networks of this nature are being slowly chopped down. It saddens me as I have always benefited, but clearly I am not any more. Whether that's a result of a link network or Google stepping on toes I can't say. I only know that many of my more meaningful domains have been hit hard.

I dropped the coop also. I had many sites in the 20000 range and dropped to under 100. I didn't drop because of weightloss.

I dropped the coop becuase I kept finding questionable sites in the coop that I was linking to. Banned sites, sites verging on pornography. I've come to the believe that my sites were being slammed for linking to bad websites and also that they are affiliate sites but some were value added comparison/reviews with non affiliate original content that ranked for a long while.

Now they have been nuked for the most part by Google but my linking strategies were weak also.

So I guess I would reconsider if they had a better sense of what a quality site is.(which is a difficult judgement to pass).

    Im inclined to agree....

Although, some could accuse Shawn of the same thing - All the donations for the new server - and COOP is falling apart.
