There is no impact of PR in Search engine rankings. PR is generally a parameter of Google that Google use to define the popularity of a particular page..:)

Its not correct. Its not necessary if the page rank of your website is 5 or 6 then your site be top in the search.

    Very much wrong.
PR is the measurement of Google Trust on a particular website --
Not an indicator of rankings in search results.

PR is very much important for search engine ranking - but in a different way which many people tend to ignore.

Let me illustrate it here --

Suppose there are two site competing for the same Keyword --

    SiteA - PR5

    SiteB - PR3

SiteA gets a PR4 link with the anchor from a PR6 site.

SiteB gets a PR4 link with the anchor from a PR8 site.

In this situation SiteB - although it is only PR3 compared to SiteA which is PR5 will outrank SiteA because it has received vote from a PR8 site.

So here - PR is highly important.

But this equation is very basic & simplistic - there are other factors like anchor/outbound links/relevancy which also play important role in SERP.

My point is - PR of the ranking site is not very important - but PR & trust of the linking site is highly important.

    Cheers:cool:

Oh dear. LOTS of thread on this already!

Yep, it does have an effect, as do just 1 or 2 hundred other variables, from on page SEO to anchor text and link quality. Not to mention site relevancy

Nope. PR is not the basis of search engine ranking :D There are many sites with high pr number but doesn't rank well on different relevant keywords. To add up, you can be number 1 in search results even though you have PR 0.

Its not always true...some time due to lack of competition you may be in top without even a page rank and some time if you have 5 page rank but with large competition you might fail to get even in top 100

It will have minor effect to search engine because if your site has good page rank means your site is getting good backlinks and backlinks of a website is a good indicator of its popularity and backlinks has importance with search engines ranking too.

absolutely wrong. high PR website would be listed in google first. because you can see so many sites have no PR still they are on top. you have backlinks and many factors then google give you PR. so no relation between PR and SERP.

pollux, you are right but as far as backlinks score is concerned with PR no one can ignore the importance of backlinks in SERPs too so there might be minor effect what I said.
