Co-Op should be based on another search engine

Or atleast, one should be able to choose whether he/she would want to exchange links in a MSN Co-Op network or a Yahoo one.

But it takes some butt lifting to implement such feature, not sure if Shawn would like to do it..

The only reason the ad network uses Google is Google is infinitely better at determining quality sites vs. spam/duplicate content sites compared to Yahoo/MSN. Using MSN or Yahoo as the mechanism to determine what's quality would degrade the quality of the network IMO.

I understand this but imo Google is degrading the quality of the network right now by forcing some to just upright leave the network that have high quality sites because of its messed up indexing. It *may* be temporary but it has been this way for many months now with no word from Google that a problem like this exists and is being worked on!

The co-op should be based on impressions, just like Adsense is.

The spamsites that got billions of indexed pages in google got something lik 100 in MSN, and not much in Yahoo either.

On the other hand, I've seen lots of quality sites getting de-indexed in google and not in MSN/Yahoo.

There's lots of such linkexchange networks already, we don't need another one.

Weight is determined based on a sites indexing withing G. To me, it would make sense if out going sites (co-op ads themselves) where also approved/weighted based on domain age, indexing, already existing incoming links, etc. Something to moderate the outbound, since currently its just the hosted sites that determine a links impressions in the network.

Anthonycea wants something that already exists everywhere

Can someone tell me why it's so bad to base it on MSN, Yahoo, Alltheweb or Joomla when no one of this search engines catched as many romanian spam sites as google did

If that's not acceptable to some people than please make multi networks. One google network, one MSN network, one Joomla network and so on. So people that don't have their sites indexed in google anymore have an alternative..

Not really, it would be the same co-op, just based on impressions, you could garner points and store them up too if you were not using them or barter them off to others for services!

I posted about this a week ago: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=97610

Shawn, I agreed with you until a few months ago.

Google fluctuates too damn much. Yahoo seems to be alot more stable. I routinely watch my coop weight jump all over the place. A site will have 30k in weight today, and 2k tomorrow. Then to 40k in 2 months. Google's crazy indexing is whats causing this.

It doenst help to have the number of links pointing to a site jump up and down, which is what happens when the weight jumps up and down.

Second reason, even when Google drops pages and my weight drops, My site is still serving ads for Yahoo - and often my yahoo index numbers are more stable then google.

For example, I have one site that Google has 125 pages listed for. Yahoo has over 12,000. I am getting credit for 125 google pages, while others in the coop are getting the yahoo benefit. I am serving 12,000 links (x5) to yahoo, but getting credit for 125 links. This in unequal and imbalanced.

I suggest: Make the algo a combination of Google and Yahoo indexed pages.

Why can't it be an option? I want to run Co-Op, but not on the google network.. on the MSN network or the Yahoo network. People should be free to choose another alternative than the monopoly SE.

I think the whole thing should be based on the G standard "nofollow" tag, since that seems to be doing so well right now.
