Please can anyone tell me if there is a way to turn off the timeout system that logs you out of DP????

If not turn off at least extend it...what is it at the minute - 5 mins? The amount of times I have to log in to DP everyday is ridiculous - usability anyone...

also the 'remember me' login check box doesn't work for me, is anyone else having this problem??

'Remember Me' login check work for me well. There must be some problem at your end.

assuming this is the reason - http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=671062

Who thought that this my questions had been addressed and closed the thread: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=790277

neither of my points were answered or addressed - one guy didn't seem to even read my post - Smyrl

"also the 'remember me' login check box doesn't work for me, is anyone else having this problem??"

i am able to understand the concept and therefore operate a checkbox

    what about the timeout question???

It was closed because they answered your question, you hit the remember be box to save you. They gave you a good clean and clear answer to your problem./

i disagree - if you read my initial post -

""also the 'remember me' login check box doesn't work for me, is anyone else having this problem??""

they did not give me a clear answer to my problem for 2 reasons:

    1) I already said it did not work (thats three times I've made that point now)

    2) That was only one part of my original post. There was no mention about the timeout issue - which is unrelated to the 'remember me' box. Therefore IwhiC, i find your comment as frustrating as the previous two and having my original thread closed.

For these two reasons, I am sure you will agree, you are wrong.

    I'm using Firefox V 2.0.0.1.2

It should work cos I've used the 'remember me' on countless other vbulletin forums??

Do you get logged out after 5-10 mins of inaction too?

    Thanks for the reply

    PS thanks mods

To be honest with you. It works fine for me and i'm using IE 7.0 and my PC is updated once every 2 days. By any chance, do you have auto-clear history, cache, etc, enabled on your Firefox? Because that will cause you to log out. Because auto login just saves a cookie to your temp folder. When you clear your history, cache, etc, it will delete that cookie and therfore the remember me option won't work. Also double check your cookie settings. It's definetly something your end. Maybe antivirus or firewall? Also double check you have all the latest updates for Firefox and your operating system.

Thanks for the advice, and this is why this is so frustrating because I have done all of that.

I literally have about 30 tabs open in firefox all logged into various email accounts, forums, server control panels etc and the only one that this happens to is DP. Even if I just have one tab with DP, I still get logged out.

For this reason I have set FF to never clear cache, cookies or any of that - you can image what a pain it would be to have to login to all those accounts everyday.

Also no firewall and no AV, windows is up-to-date.

It can't just be me :(

Ok, I think I might know what is going on. If i'm correct, the "Remember Me" option saves your username and password. So when you log out all you do is double click on the username box and it auto fills the username and password field. It does not auto log in. It just saves your username and password so all you have to do is double click the username field then click log in. Some websites may have login to time-out after 5 hours or so. some have an option to never expire. I think thats the problem your having. It's not an auto-login it's a username and password save option. hence Remember me, because it's only remembering your username and password.

just to clarify the two problems i am having:

1)I will be using DP, go to another tab, come back to DP 5 mins later to find that I have been logged out and have to login again - this is the timeout problem.

    2) When I come to login, even though I have previously checked the 'remember me' check box, I still have to manually enter my login details. This happens every time I go come to DP even when I have manually logged out.

none of my accounts auto login but when I click in the username field i select my username and the password field is also then filled in so I just have to hit login/enter etc.

Sorry I think I was getting the problems muddled up before - i think this clarifies this.

Hmm it's odd. Have you tried using a different computer or browser? To see if you can narrow down the problem.

this could become a never ending thread by suggesting IE (any version) is better than FF :) there are those that care

I'll give it a go too and see if it is FF that is the culprit.

It's worth a try. Nothing to lose eh? Let me know how it goes. I won't rest until this is solved.

You can contact me via Yahoo, MSN, Skype if you need to. With skype I can do voice call if it's easier for you. And try Yahoo first rather than MSN.
