Go to the support site for the type of forums you are running and do a search for AdSense. Many have hacks or help files on adding AdSense in various placement positions.

Check out message sent by Will.Spencer over here.

There are also many other tips on DP Forums about putting Google Adsense Ads on forums. Just do the search with, e.g. 'adsense on forums' keyword ;)

It depends on your visitor profile. If you have mostly SE referals, then banner blindness isn't such a problem, but if you have mostly members lurking, then they can become blind very quickly. Rotating the ad colors/positions/sizes can help, and rotating them with images related to your site.

    Great placement :)

You could place the scycraper on the left a bit lower, so that the "Ads by Google" text and background of it would be at the same level as the verse with "Forum, Topics, Replies, Last Post Info". However, present placement should do very well anyway. :)

Secondly, the 300x250 (?) Ad after first post is showed only on the first page, it doesn't shows on the others. I'd fix that ;)

The Way I Did It Was To Put A Table Around My Existing Forum Table.

    <table width="100%"><tr><td width="165" valign="top">
    *adsense here*
    </td><td valign="top">
    *the main forum tables here*
    </td></tr></table>

    Code (markup):
