I got two forums I need to change the ads about on. I was looking for the best Vbulletin/PHPBB optimzed for Adsense forums you've seen. I just relized one of my forums is getting 300 uniques a day but only 83 impressions because I dont have adsense on the main page or forums view pages. Whats the best forum layout you've seen to maximize earnings.
If your referring to phpbb forums, Adsense is best optimized on the index_body.tpl, viewforum_body.tpl, and viewtopic_body.tpl templates.

Sure it would work, however it's against the Adsense TOS as you'd be displaying ads on non-content forum pages.
but in the new TOS they have removed that you can't put adsense on login, welcome, register pages what is that?
Really? I'll ahve to take a look for myself. After viewing some forums would it be possible to place the Adsense banner within the first post, to make it look like part of the post and hopefully get some more clicks by the computer illerate. I've seen many mods etc.. where it is directly after the first post but I'd think within the first post (say where the sig goes) would increase CTR dramatically. Any ideas?
Dude checkout http://www.askdavetaylor.com/phpbb_trick_for_including_google_adsense_between_articles.html Integrating link ad units between the 1st and 2nd post is very effective.
there is a MOD for phpbb called inline_banner_ad, its so good you can put ads right after first post, every post, x number of posts with two different styles, very good and power ful mod, check it out
Will, I tried that but ahd problem installing it on my template. I whent ahead with this for my phpbb viewthread http://carcommons.com/few-s-vt24960.html though I may downsize and go with a 468 banner in the post. I need to make post links bold to blend it in even more. For Vbulletin I'm doing an adlinks after the first post. http://sportscommons.com/showthread.php?t=2052 I'll keep you informed of results. What have you guys found to be successful for viewforum templates and viewcat. type templates? How about within the listing or such?
One problem with forums is the user base are repeat users (for the most part). So your CTR is always going to be pretty low. But... if your forum gets popular enough that you start attracting CPM advertisers, you can actually start making good money that way since it's based on impressions instead of clicks (and a forum generates a LOT of impressions).
Shawn, my forum imports 90% of its posts from public sources (rss feeds and such) so I'd say 95% of my vistors are one time vistors that find my site for some unique term like "how do I replace a headlight in 86 BMW z6" . For this reason alone my site produces much better ctr then your normal forum. If I could get about 100,000 pages full indexed and cache (many pages are just indexed) I'm sure my traffic would increase exponetially.
