relatively speaking, in that the over-all economy of the US is 10 times the size of the U.K.'s, their debt is roughly 1/8th the size of ours.. making it even more Dire than the US's national debt. Is the British way of life, socialism and the "run-a-muck" ness of the liberal agenda destroying the U.K.??? http://www.ukgovernmentdebt.co.uk/
It seems they are only interested in highlighting perceived problems in the US, while ignoring the mess in their own backyard.
Who really cares! The incompetent UK Government only caters for individual egos and reputations of its own party politicians When did a national debt manage to get in the way of progress, the progress at all times is centered to maintain the profile and hubris of the ruling political members Maintain the ruling party at all costs, but always at the cost and detriment 100% to the voting population Simple terms 'We govern and we don't give a f**k about anything as long as we stay in power' What has national debt got to do with policies and politics ?
See the "Current US National Debt" thread British.. this is simply a rebuttal for mix to mind his own backyard.
Excellent point. I thought of that earlier when the US debt thread started up. You saved me the time of getting the numbers together and posting it myself.
I generally like the way my country is at the moment ( Apart from the Uni fees ). Is your republicanism destroying your country? Look at the US' poverty gap compared to ours. Then look at the literacy level of your country then compare it to ours. I'd say this "socialism" is doing pretty well for looking after the people like it should. The fact that the US' economy is 10 tens ours, shows how your government has always favoured profits over people.
I'd tend to agree, the sooner the current govenment is removed the better. There is far too much money spent on crazy public sector jobs dreamt up to keep 'New Labours' cronies happy. I'm in favour of lower taxation and more careful government spending. Too much money has been wasted on thoughless ill thought out projects. Having said that, I still wouldn't swap our economy for the USA's at the moment.
IF you want to compare national debt figures between two countries or between different points in time for the same country the standard measure used is national debt as a percentage of GDP. For those of you that are genuinely interested in facts then you can view UK National Debt as a percentage of its GDP for the last 10 years here. It shows that national debt has risen in recent years (Iraq War) but is still at a low level compared to earlier years and is well below the EU threshold of 60%. So at the momement in economic terms, the UK national debt is not of a serious concern but could become an issue in the next decade or so. The reason I posted this thread about US national debt is because it is widely accepted by the whitehouse, the international monetary fund and many other economic groups that the current US national debt level is a concern and needs to be dealt with. IN this recent IMF paper you will see the debt referred to as large and being a concern. Just because somebody non-US says observes something about the US it does not mean I am bashing the US. Its called open debate, you should try it. Democracy is all about holding the Government to account.
You seem awefully defensive about an exact facsimile thread about your nation being made as while, in all irony, say its ok for you to make your US thread, and this one is moot? Your economy is far off worse than the US in terms of debt, thats a fact that you cannot hide.. so why you feel the need to blow it off is beyond me. I am merely pointing it out so you are aware and can begin to pay attention to your own nations issues which for all intents and reason, is far more serious than the US's. Learn to take criticism for your nation. If you dish it out, you can take it.
I'm my country a person like you talking about macro econmoics is like a monkey playing a guitar! very annoying!
can you address some of these? statistics.gov.uk/cci/nugget.asp?id=277 It goes to show as to WHY exactly you (the UK) are having the largest slowdown in 13 years: news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/4289358.stm It is so bad in the UK that the EU has taken them to task: finfacts.com/irelandbusinessnews/publish/article_10004474.shtml I dont hate the British! I love them and only post this out of my love of them
