Obviously not many sites in the cat you edited for years, and interesting that your site was up near the front of your queue. The terminology of q's and pools has been invented outside of ODP, as you know they would simply be referred to inside as greens, because of the colour they appear to DMOZ editors, queue seemed right until it was obvious that it conveyed the wrong meaning and so pool is used. I am sure you could have worked that out for yourself having been on the inside. Also you will remember that we do try and get the greens down in some categories when the pool is very large, greenbusting we call it. Did you volunteer to do any?
The fact that a term is used OUTSIDE dmoz for referring the submission queue reveals some external policy based on what you want to show to outsiders. Manipulating. Moving from a specific name to a more generic one. Getting more freedom and space for making excuses.
There is no formal policy, you can see a conspiracy theory in someone making a cup of coffee. Clearly talking about greens on outside forums would mean we made as much sense as some posters on those forums. We used what seemed to best describe suggestions, but queue gave an impression you simply waited to get listed and we don't work that way so we used other words, no discussion, it was obvious pool was better when it was used and the rest of us obviously like it better because it was closer to what really happened, always has happened and is like to happen in the future, unless there is a major internal discussion which changed that, but don't hold your breath, IMHO that's how we like it. Ask Q, if he ever heard the word queue used at DMOZ for the submissions/suggestions/greens. And I have been there nine years and the greens have been there longer, except that we lost them a few years ago. There have always been outstanding suggestions, there always will be unless we turn them off, a very good idea. Though the theory of suggestions is more to do with the end user finding a site that we have not got and suggesting it to us. It's intention was not, for what it is mostly used, webmasters to offer their own site. This is our hobby, we want to build categories, categories in which we have knowledge/passion/interest or just sometimes categories for the greater good of the directory when our interest is doing something we don't really want to do because it will help the directory. I am still spending time on sites which have been thrown out by the bots which look for no return, parked etc . Again I have to describe them to you because internal forums would refer to reds (because they appear that colour). So I am checking sites that our bots say have gone down, I have to also look for a replacement in case the site has changed its URL. I will work for hours simply deleting dead sites, just an occasional find of something that has changed. But as was said in another thread if one gets one's foot in the door it takes a little to get it out and we regard reds as an editor's work that we should not delete without trying to find an alternative URL for the same site. But there are more interesting jobs, but this one needs doing.
It's interesting that only 5 sites were added to my cat while I was an editor, and the only reason ANY of them were in the QUEUE was due to me having them in my application... Laughable answer at best. Any reason why it was figured out on the inside only just a few short weeks ago? It's not like there has been ANY change in the last few years. And again, up till just a very short while ago, you called it a Q (which, again, it's not and has NEVER been a Q... it's a QUEUE or a SUGGESTION POOL... you can't even call it a pool, unless of course you swim in it.)
its no doubt dmoz is a good search engine but submission of site in dmoz is not impossible. Its depend on site and most important site should be ranked.
It's a directory. Its rudimentary search facility could by no means be called a search engine. Suggesting that a website be listed is extremely easy. Listability is well defined. Self Check Ranking and age of website is irrelevant. Content is king.
Get listed in Dmoz is important because you will be listed in many important directories (Google for example) , and normally , it will increase your PR by one if you have less than PR3 .... But, being listed in Dmoz is not necessary .. I have sites with high PR, with high traffic with satisfying income not listed in there .. AND , if they email me and say: "Would you like us to list your sites in Dmoz?" I'll respond NO! Dmoz , IMO, is an unethical directory POINT (Yes, there are good people there, but if there is only one unethical man doing what he wants without anyone looking at what he had done .. then I don't trust anyone in there, and the examples are infinite .. )
Don't worry they don't ever ask. The last comment is from someone quite independent is it, oh just a minute is that a directory in your signature I see? Infinite examples of one man doing things wrong, but you don't even offer one.
Please, whoever you are, stop asking for proves you ignore when you get. If you don't want to be confronted with reality, well it's your choice. But don't waste other people's time asking for something you don't really want. And you will certainly ignore when given.
About DMOZ i have a strange experience... I have 2 of the top sites in my country (original content, unique, well designed, top positions in search engines in many terms, not hate content at any kind in them) I have add them in the past 8 years about 4 times and still none of them has been approved... I have added them to the correct category, with clean description and everything after I read the terms and still I didn't have them approved... But they have sites in there that hasn't been updated for over 6 years... I even sent an email to be an editor (in more than one categories) but never receive not even one reply... And (really strange) when I add 3 englsh sites in their correct category 2 of them approved. P.S. I have submit over 20 different sites all those years and only 2 of them are approved when other sites of mine with much better content (one of them has over 50.000+ original pages) they don't...
I would say that a dmoz listing has no more value than any other good link. It is my u derstanding that none of the major search engines use it for results anymore.
Yes, you are absolutely right. It is the major problem in Dmoz, i also submitted my site with correct meta in accurate categories many times but my site could not listed in Dmoz Rather didn't receive any reply at their end
From what I have found, it is easier to become an editor than to get listed. Go find an area closely related to your site and try and become an editor, then list your site. That's how I was able to get listed. I don't think there was much value to the listing. But if it is important to you, that's your best shot.
I agree with caprichoso... Want an example of a corrupt editor? Look at Anonymously... I have no proof he broke any rules within the ODP, but there is proof of him being a rule breaker! He's been banned from digital point more then once and posts Anonymously so it's clear he has no regard for the rules and has something to hide. So again...
