Anti-Spam for Desktop?

It seems almost pointless to post anything serious in General Chat amidst all the fascinating debates and polls going on here  but I don't see anywhere else to post this.

    I'm looking for input into a desktop-based anti-spam utility, NOT server-based.

I was using Norton Anti-Spam but it's a slug and a resource hog and periodically crasahed Outlook Express.

I just tried McAfee Spam Killer - it was faster but sometimes claimed I had no email when in fact I did (it didn't flag it as spam, it just didn't seem to find it). After the last time, on boot this morning, I uninstalled it and downloaded the usual 50-60 emails that i knew would be there.

What else have you used? What are you currently using and what are the pros and cons as you see it?

Most of those programs force an opt in type of set up where people can't send you mail until you approve them, www.spamarrest.com is one of them!

Crap Norton Internet Security, its no good. I'd not recommend it.
Even I am looking for a good anti spam software,

I started a thread a few days ago about the Comodo security suit which includes, firewall, antivirus, antispam and other programs. I've only tried their firewall so I can't vouch for their antispam but since it's free I think it might be worth a try.

Yeah. I hate those things. I want a good, non-resource-hog desktop solution that doesn't require double-opt-in or linking to a whitelist-blacklist on someone else's server.

The Comodo firewall blocks AVG antivirus.

If I can't find a desktop solution, is there a server solution I can install if my site is hosted elsewhere (i.e., I don't own the server)?
