I am not sure what selling a directory has to do with gooogle putting them out of business. If someone pays 50k for his directory I would not be expecting it to go out of business anytime soon.

I know from my perspective I always have new ideas and sites in the works and it is impossible to hang on to all my previous creations because there are not enough hours in the day.

 

A little off topic:

I am planning a lot of new ones coming up that would benefit directory owners
a)directory backlink checker
b)quality rank for a website
c)A SE for a directory

8666 directories has over 1 million listings (Not far from Dmoz)(I have not indexed more directories... So there would be more than Dmoz)

I hope we could make a world of our own!

It's just we have to pass this time without pressing the panic button!

 

Hi jg123, i wasn't referring to the issue of zorg being sold but was concentrating on the effect that announcements are having, for example some believe its the end of directories because some are being advertised as on sale, im meaning that more really.

I can see though how something can have a knock on effect, you literally only have to suggest something, without any proof whatsover and in no time at all theres enough speculation to influence a small army of people.

I dont want to see cyber suicide, if you know what i mean.

Don't you think that directories are online to pass PR juice to other websites? and only submitters buy listings because they want good rank in google only just in google?

So what's the point here of your SE and to check quality of a directory with your tool? I think there are already many tools to check the quality of directory. But submitters only look for what PR google shows.

The sad thing is all these other supporters are actually wishing good luck to this type of act.

There is no excuse for starting a directory and selling it within the first month.

For sure this is qbc and from someone who spends all their time telling people how good their directory is and how everyone should run a directory.
cmon people a bid directory with ridiculous bid ammounts that appear in a very short time will only go so far because of the stare that it causes not only from people but also from search engines. You can bet this is one of the biggest factors that sent alarm bells ringing at google and prompted quick action in the form of penalties.

 

Didn't a lot of the revenue come from the john chow post?

I have no problem with anyone selling a site, its Mikey’s site to do whatever he wishes.

I do however think it’s dodgy to try and sell without revealing the pending google issue.

It would be unfair if someone was to pay lots to find out that the site was not what it was thought to be.

This is a classic example of someone wanting to put up a website, make quick money, and take off. This is a problem and Google knows it.

How long did it actually take to build the site? I can only think that you downloaded one of those free CMS scripts, sell links, and then want to sell the site.

Poeple supporting and saying good luck to Mikey, you might want to think and look twice at them.

I was going to say the same thing. I've noticed a lot of "new faces" on the "directories" section of DP in the last couple of weeks talking a lot of rubbish.

I wonder if the gentleman with 7 posts only, knows who Mikey is in order to call him a qbc...well... everyone is smart these days and everyone have started to throw with stones...
