LOL, he could have at least attempted to headbut the Italian in the head. What wierdo headbutts someone in the chest.

Sad to see a man of his stature having to get sent off in a WC final. But as many others have said in this thread, the man himself has got himself redcarded no less than 14 times in his career. It was just one moment of insanity and I am sure that Zidane would have regretted his actions in the tunnel. Many people would like to know the exact circumstances under which he committed it.

Hopefully people will remember him for the good that he did. He was and is arguably the finest player of his generation .Unfortunately all great people get remembered for that one blunder in their life and all ordinary people get remembered for that one great moment in their life.

Zidane getting sent off gave that psychological advantage to the Italians. The match suddenly swung in the favour of the Azzuri as France were down to 10 men and without 2 of their best penalty takers.Italy created more opportunities in the first half and France dominated play in the second half and extra time until the great man's dismissal.

The sad fact is that he was not allowed to collect his medal.ZZ was thus deprived of a proper send off .Sport sometimes is a great equaliser.

The referee who sent ZZ off was the same one who sent Wayne Rooney off too.

Materazzi had an involvement in everything in the game--
    Conceding the first penalty
    Scoring for Italy
Involved in the sending off of Zidane.
Took a crucial penalty in the shoot out.

The referee has nothing to do with it.
    It is a correct decision.

But Italians were really making ZZ very muchfrustrated and he had to take this step.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Nothing excuses Zidane for taking the actions he did. IMO it was out of mere frustation that he resorted to the act. France dominated the game from the second half onwards and showed nothing for it. Italy conceded two goals the entire World Cup, one a home goal and a penalty kick which was contreversial to say the least. They were VERY deserving winners, and good on Materazzi for getting under Zidane's skin. He retired one game too late.

Was an ugly stunt from the Italian. Looked like it was programmed.
Who knows, maybe Zidane is a couple of million $$$ richer today.
    Would that be a surprise?

Yeh well, his actions won Italy the World Cup, so? :D France can't score goals so let's turn this into a racial thing.

I think Zidane got pinched on the tits from the back. In the game of Water Polo, it happens a lot. Anyway, it's the best live head butt I've ever seen. I'm looking for a picture of it now. Wana put it on my desktop wall paper.

    Money, money and money
Think about the fall of the Italian, can this be true? - no way - it was all to theatrical. Impossible for physics I guess. You would go down differently in an action like this when its carried out boldly.

maybe it was theatrical it doesn't matter...Zidane should not do that on the field. But there are always two sides of the story and Mazeratti should be punished for his provocations too. We will see what will happen with Italian soccer today ;) ....

Some of them fifa should ban from playing like they did with Greece
