Hockey players have enough class to drop gloves and helmets duke it out like boxers...except they do it on skates and with less boxing skills and the fans cheer it on rather than acting dismayed. Then they go sit in the penalty box. It defuses tempers enough that guys like Gretzky can end a career gracefully and not with a sucker head butt.

There was a french speaking goalie I did not like named Patrick Roy who attempted to fight my team's goalie about a decade back. Here's the result:

Maybe the French should stick to cooking and surrendering.

Yes,Zidane is an awesome player but it's not the first time he does something like that, it's sad. He has achieved today a new record, he's now the french player who has been shown the most red cards in world cup competitions.

For the sake of clarity, let me say I'm Italian
The end result might have been different with Zidane, and I actually think that in the second part of the match the French played better..

But as we know, games are also made by "grey areas", and whatever Materazzi said to Zidane, it was plain provocation..and in soccer matches provocation is really everyday stuff, you see people provoking in nearly every match

Part of the skills of a good player is also being able to ignore those provocations..Zidane probably lacked this self control and he fell in Materazzi's trap..

We won the match because of the penalty missed by Trezeguet, or maybe because of Materazzi's provocation...or because of Zidane's missed header...whatever! We still won, that's life and that's the game of soccer

Don't let's forget that the match was played very fairly, with Buffon and Gattuso often hugging the other team's players, all in all I think we had a really great team, and we deserved this :)

PS Buffon has never been beaten except for penalties or auto-goals..and I think we all agree that Buffon and Cannavaro are hands down the best goalie+defender in the world.. :D

PPS props to Henry, in my opinion one of the best attackers, if not the best, of this world cup, his dribblings often fucked up our defense!

    that's not the point!
the point is he was sent off for that, and he knew it's gonna happen.
He basicy just caused France to lose. If he stayed and played they could have won:eek:

Yeah, I know. Have you ever played a sport¿ Sometimes you just react to things without thinking. I´ve been fined and sent off many times for the stupidest crap you could imagine.

It´s not like he said, 'Hmmm, maybe I should head butt this dude and then get sent off so my team can lose the world cup and I can end my career being known as a cheap-shot specialist!'

I just read that probably Materazzi was earlier hitting Zidane into his injured shoulder :D Remember this is fans talk. I sure hope Zidane will come out and say why he did that !

That's a new one for the playgrounds!

Shame it's exceeded the bandwidth but I caught it just before it went offline.

    Quality.

Too bad I missed it. But I saw the game anyway. No matter why he did it, that was just stupid. There's no reason he should have expected anything but the red he got. Which means no PKs for him.

Exactly... Thats the man of guts..lol

LOL, I just remember hitting an opponent with the cricket ball, when he called me motherfu**r. he sent off the field, and recieved 3 stiches right on forehead, I'd been DQ for the rest of the tournament.

If it werent my teammates, who grabbed me from behind, I could have done even worse.
there are moment in the games, with all the tensions, you dont think, you just dont think anything.

farewell Zidane, I'm sure the Italian player deserved what he got, you don't just throw away your entire image as one of the greatest football players in the final game before your retirment over nothing, it had to be something serious. France was the better team.

Just one question. If Zinedine Zidane wouldn't have done what he did with his head, would the result have been different?

He was due for a miss on a PK anyway so he might as well get red carded. :)
