My one hour old site has no backlinks whatsoever but the homepage is PR2 and all inner pages are PR1.
    How can it be?

Hi ... had much the same, on a blog, for about one year. A PR3, with 1 back link. On my main site, I have inside several pages at PR4 and PR3, but overall site is PR3. Who knows, with google. Good luck.

I wonder whether the PR algo has changed and I have seen many new sites simply shooting up from no pr to pr 3 or 4. Hope they stay there and never climb down after a day or two...

Post your domain details along with the age.

The workers at Google go through each website and they have a remote control with all 10 PRs on it and they just click a button to change it based on how they like the site. True story.

The only back-links I see are from this forum, but there are a few with PR3 and 2!

At the time I posted this thread, it has no links.
Now (the day after!), it shows 5 links. So that can help to understand. But yesterday, I didn't get it :D

Also, make sure to understand that the subject of this thread has something to do with SEO and therefore, the fact that it is in the SEO section of the reviews makes this thread at the right section...

It seems like the pr algorithm has significantly changed google is giving
out pr to sites that has not earned it and taking it away from other sites.

Lucky? why? It's not like I'll do better on SERP or getting more traffic...
    PR is meaningless...traffic is everything....

Very easy - if your site have thousands of internal pages and they all have a link on the homepage. No external links required.

If you have very new website and got PR then it is good start but try to maintain it by increasing backlinks.
