Zero Competition yet HIGH cost?

Been testing different ideas for keywords and aff campaigns. I threw together a landing page.. with relevant content for my keyword... title, meta, etc. Even put the keyword as the subdomain name.

The keyword has NO competiton yet they are still asking .50 cents for each click.

    Why is this happening?

Its got content, keywords and i even used a php jump redirect for the aff link. This is driving me insane, any ideas?

why not just enter a lower max bid, and see if you still get decent clicks

    I did try lowering it..

Then it told me that my minimum bid must be .50 or my ad wont be displayed

    GuyFromChicago .. a good read.

I have read it before and i understand it completely. I am following it exact and still getting poor results. My campaigns are all relevant, have content, etc. I dont understand how they can ask for $1 a click for an ad with no competition that is a quality ad.

Mate, I have the same problem. I'd be happy to know the solution. I even send an email, but the answer didn't help me.

Without seeing exactly what you're doing (full access to your account) no one can give you a definitive answer. As I'm sure you know, there are lots of variables and elements that could be coming into play.

    Couple things;

If it's your landing page Google reevaluates them monthly, sometimes maybe a little more frequently. So after you make landing page updates it could take up to 30 days to see the effect - good or bad. (your LP looks ok btw)

Are you trying different matching options?

You could also try leaving the lower bid in place and let the keyword stay inactive. Google does rotate in inactive keywords from time to time to "test" their quality. I've often seen inactive keywords (due to min bid) become active at a lower max CPC in spaces with little competition. It can take a few weeks for this to happen, but I've seen it time and time again.

    GuyFromChicago..

More great info, thanks for reading my PM.

I found out some more things in the last 24 hours that have made my campaigns go crazy.

I reazlied that my landing pages looked great, graphics and all.. but they had no actual internal links and content. I built up a little bit of pages "info pages" and linked them within the index page. Made a new sitemap..

I then resubmit it in adwords, but SAME problem. Then i did an experiment. I realized that even if i deleted my campaign, google was not going to respider it for quality if i created a new campaign on the same domain.. SO i put everythign into a subdomain (with same content from previous campaign) and started a whole new campaign with the different URL in adwords and what do you know.. i am getting 10 cent clicks to start with.

The issue was my shitty landing pages, and adwords punishing me for messing up on a domain by not rescanning it for quality when i resubmit to a new campaign.

I hope this works out. If it does, then my next step will be to experiment with CTR

Is your site only 1 page? You need more than 1 page to lower your cost. Have a link at the bottom of your landing page to like 4 - 5 other related pages. See what it does :)
