Just wondering if anyone knows if zend will slow down a server, I have a hosting account "shared" but the server seems to be very slow doing a check I see that zend optimiser is installed is this a programme that would slow down my hosting account?

I had this installed on my pc server setup before and I had to remove it because it slowed the computer down.

zend is a decoder, people use it to protect their codes. though it is called an optimizer, it does take a bit of resources of the cpu to dothe decoding. You need to get more resources from your host, or move to a vps, or use scripts that are open and not zend encoded or anything

but if you have installed zend on yoru server and have got open scripts that don't really make use of the zend optimizer, then i don't see a reason why your server is slow while loading sites.

Zend is present almost on all the hosting servers now. It shouldn't slow down your server though. There are lots of reasons why the server is responds slowly and the only person who can tell the exact reason is the one having the root access of the server.

BTW, server can be slowed down due to many reasons, like

large amount of websites are hosted on a server
the server is a very low configuration server
a specific script/account on the server using excessive resources
    Apache/Mysql not optimized properly
server is on not on a 100mbps connection
your own internet speed is slow :)

    and many more....
