Have you seen this article? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/02/16/scientists-discover-eighth-continent-zealandia/ What do you think? Is there now an eighth continent? Will maps and geography books need to be re-written much like when Pluto was demoted from being the ninth planet?
lol, if it's under water does it really count? Oh yay, the US is imploding and we're bored with that conflict, so let's set two peaceful countries up against each other and then tell them that they were Aussies anyway I'm sure it's fascinating to geologists, and the mining industry but I don't really understand how one lot of ocean floor differs from the next - I'll have to read up some.
If I read the article correctly, there are bits and pieces that do stick up out of the ocean (about 6% of its landmass.) Are they drilling in that area now? Much easier to drill an oil well when the land is relatively close to the surface of the water, I suspect.
The frackers are circling but in areas where seriously endangered groups of dolphins live and people are up in arms. Wouldn't mind some of that petrochemical income hitting the country though. ref: http://whaledolphintrust.org.nz/projects/hectors-dolphins/
There is and it exists. I know this because Trump has added Zealandia to his travel ban and is planning to build a 2nd wall to keep the buggers out.
@Spoiltdiva - we've already had a major diplomatic crisis when it looked like we were going to lose access to the ESTA system. Collectively we can't decide if Trump's administration isn't the best soap opera in the world or completely terrifying. Although our local soap is trending worldwide with it's episode ending of "Please tell that is not your penis".
Dang. I must be out of the loop. I thought Clinton was going to add Enzeddia to her travel ban list, but when she lost I had NO idea that Trump would follow up with a Zealandia ban.
She was actually going to offer one of her famous "re-sets" with Zealandia, I believe. Funny how this "geographical thread" has morphed into a political discussion. U.S. politics seems to be sucking all of the oxygen out of forums, these days.
Make Twitter Great Again I created my twitter account way back when but barely used it. I've been fixated for the last 3 weeks by the many and varied opinions on there. The Twitter bosses must be over the moon. One good thing about Zealandia, if we can claim the territory, and if we have oil is that we can rest easy that America will come and save us if the shit hits the fan.
I keep hearing about what bad shape Twitter is in financially, despite the traffic and usage. Haven't looked deep into it. Signed up for Twitter a looong time ago but never use it. As far as oil, etc., be careful what you wish for.
Better than we'd like them to be. China are a significant economic force in places like East Timor. It wouldn't take much for them to have a significant impact down here.
And perhaps start bringing in fill to shore it up and have enough of Zealandia sticking out over the ocean to build another military base...
