ypnforums.com - will this be Trademark Issue ?

Discussion in 'Domain Names' started by visioninfotech, Dec 23, 2006.

I asked in another thread about nokia4u.com and i am thankful to members for their response.

Now, i am having another domain YPNforums.com, i want to ask if you guys think this is also a trademark hassle ??

there is a website running already with name adsenseforums.com and many people already use adsense in their domain names ?

Is it allowed or they got permission from Google

    Thanks in advance.

I doubt many websites have obtained the respective permission but it should not pose a problem if you are developing your domain non-commercially and mention something like 'This forum is not sponsored by or affiliated with Yahoo'

    Just my opinion.

That's a tough one. I guess you can start your forums and if you get into trouble you can always change domain names.

If you endorse discussions related Yahoo Publisher Network then you will have a TM issue. Now whether or not Yahoo will care I can't say but it will defiantely be a violation of their TM. I would contact them now and ask for permission to use the domain name for the discussion of the services provided by the Yahoo Publisher Network. Unless Yahoo has plans to launch their own forum they will almost certainly grant you this right.

    I don't think its tough one. :D

Exactly what I am about to say. Contact them directly and see what they reply you back. I am sure they will not allow you to run any think that could get you any money. Yahoo is famous for fighting their name, so if they found out on there own they will be in a strong position to sue you or to force you to transfer domain to them.

So, before it happens, think for a new name if you plane to run a forum discussing “Ads Networks”.

As long as you contact them and tell them the domain will be used only for the discussion of services provided by Yahoo and for non commercial means they will probably allow it. You might even be able to sell advertising and write it off as for the sole purpose of hosting the forum.

If your considering doing this for profit then just quit and think of a new idea.

you are going to have a TM issue strictly legally . . .BUT I highly doubt yahoo will come after you . . . not worth their time . .

Goodness, you asked if there are potential trademark issues with the other
forum domain name you asked about. Didn't you at least get a hint?

Then again, even common sense isn't so common. Egad.

I do not think the term YPN is a trademark by Yahoo! and think it was adopted by the online users. I doubt Yahoo! even has the term YPN on their website.

Are you familier with http://ypnblog.com ?

Also heres an excerpt from the Yahoo TOS:
