Is there a certain percentage of traffic that YPN requires be US based? A couple of sites that I have YPN ads on get a fairly equal split of US and international traffic? Is that something I should be worried about other than the fact that I don't get paid for the non-US clicks? Has anyone come up with some creative ways to switch between YPN and Adsense based on users location...one that does not require a GeoIP db?
Why not use a GeoIP db? The other solutions aren't any more accurate then the free GeoIP db's out there. Solutions such as phpadsnew or mySimpleAds use the free Country db from Maxmind. Works great for maximizing your dollar to display adsense for international users instead of just wasting them on dropped YPN clicks. -Matt
to answer the first part of your question, ypn wants mostly US traffic. if you have too much international traffic, you may get the "too much international traffic" termination letter.
Matt, I guess I could use the GeoIP db...I was just wondering if there was another way....detecting users system lanuage, etc. karagold, thanks for the clarification
I've heard sob stories of people with 85-90% US traffic getting the internationl-ban letter. Just be careful.
I get about 200% more US traffic than international...I too have heard of ban letters for 85-90%, but I think that also depends on how much revenue YPN is receiving from it...
A safe amount is probably no more than 3% international... If you can't get it below that percentage, you should probably pull the ads
