Youtube Links: Landing Page or Direct Affiliate?

    All,

I made a youtube for an affiliate product that is selling fairly well on my web site. I embedded the video on my page, and provided a link back to the page in the youtube video.

I did this to boost the SEO for my page. But I was thinking - should I link straight to the affiliate? I'm wondering if I'm putting too many clicks between the user and the product.

    Thanks,
    Serge

I am doing exactly opposite of you.

Always redirect straight to the affiliate, but thinking to build a landing page now.

I think it's best to test both methods. Just as they say in paid traffic to test such things, you can test it for non-paid advertising. Also, if you are using an affiliate link it might be a good idea to use a bit.ly link or other URL shortener service which has tracking abilities so you can gather information about how much traffic you are getting, and where it's coming from.

It seems to me that you should try if possible to drive all traffic to a squeeze (I love Optimize press for this) which then can redirect to any affiliate. I also see some people tune a domain to this and add a php redirect to make the URL more attractive. This is a good idea in general because you get link cloaking and if you add a hyperlink at the top of the description of the YouTube vid the hyperlink will appear just under the video with a cool looking domain that will attract clicks.
