Wonder if you are on sites with embedded videos and if the alexa toolbar gives credit to youtube for a visit if the video is played. If so then youtube will most likely jump to number 1.

I doubt youtube will pass yahoo. Yahoo is the biggest email provider in the world. The 2nd biggest search engine in the world. Flickr. Lots of other services. News. Movie times...Yahoo has everything pretty much. I love youtube, but Yahoo is the source of many things for many people.

I think youtube will soon be number one and pass yahoo. It will be interesting what will happen when/if Microsoft buys yahoo.

I love it when people hate on alexa. If you're site has a bad alexa rank, you hate, if you have a good rank, you love it.

Seriously, I see all these alexa haters like REALLY REALLY enthused about how crap alexa is. Stop taking it personal, get over it. Its not Alexa's fault your site sucks.

Alexa is pretty accurate when you start getting to such numbers.

In the hundreds of thousands, an extra 100 or so users using Alexa's toolbar and get your ranking decreased--which is what makes is inaccurate at those numbers... but once you're at top 100... you're going to need an extra HUNDRED thousand (example--it's probably millions) which makes it pretty accurate at some point. I'd think top 5 is on target.

Alexa is pretty easily bloated, I personally don't see it as very accurate, as they simply don't have a large enough user-base to show mass opinion, and sites geared towards the type of people who would install the toolbar get better rankings, at least IMO. I don't hate Alexa, I just don't feel that it is always a good indicator of traffic.

Seeing as though YouTube is owned by Google, and Google is light years ahead in the search engine wars - there isn't really a "new war" as such that looks to take place soon.

However, it will be interested to see what Microsoft will do, now that Yahoo have decided not to sell to them.

    Alexa is inaccurate:
    1. yahoo.com
    2. youtube.com
    3. live.com
    4. google.com
    [8.18 AM, 15 Feb]

Sounds like Alexa thinks Live Search is more "popular" than the main Google domain.
