    Hi,

I was thinking of starting a youtube clone site.

Here I want to upload episodes of American TV shows (simpsons, family guy.. ect..)

First off I know this violates copyright.

    So...

What precautions would I have to take to not violate anything.

    Some of my thoughts are...

    -Get offshore hosting
-Get a fancy ending like (.cn, .nz, anything but .com)

And I want to know more.

    Thanks

    -Charles

I know so many sites like youku, and mega upload.... Who alaways have current movies and episodes of TV shows up. I just want to know how they do it.

Are you going to upload the videos or your users?

If it is your users, then I believe you can simply make sure you have some way for copyright owners to contact you and request a takedown. And you have to respond to that request within a reasonable timeframe.

Offshore hosting will normally only let you link to content like that. You might find a host that lets you host it, but it will probably be hard.

If you're a citizen of a country that doesn't allow copyrighted material hosting, eg the USA, and then an off-shore account won't help.

If you know it violates copyright, how about don't do it? Evading copyright laws by moving offshore is not exactly taking a high road. Also, I doubt any of the copywriters in the copywriting section of DPF want to help you avoid copyright laws.

Sound like a bad idea waiting to happen... You will not make any money with it, just going to be a pain in your A$$... I had a friend try to launch a site like that and it was not worth it at all.. Maybe just start a youtube clone with niche videos like street fights, or funny animals, or hot girls dancing or something like that..

Either way - good luck and yes you will need some good expensive hosting ...
