You're releasing a new site, whats your routine?

I've got a few sites that are doing well, but are a year or so old. About to put up a few more sites, and I was just thinking about how I'm going to get my site out.

So what's your routine when you write you're putting a site online?

    Submitting to 400 directories?
    Press releases?
    Buying/exchanging links?
    Etc.

(I know people won't release all the details, and that's fine, just trying to decide how I'm going to do this and would like to see how others do it.)

Looks like you have the basics down.

Since you already have sites doing well, just repeat what you did with those.

Yeah, but the thing is I did those a year or so ago. They grew pretty quick, but yet over time. Marketing a website is completely different now than when they were released, what is why I'm wondering.

    Anyone going to share?

    It's completely different now--in just a year's time?

There might be a couple more options, but it's not completely different.

If you are looking for thousands of worthless visitors to come to your site instantly, I'm sure you can do things like Digg.

Aside from that, I would do what you did a year ago and understand that building a quality site that will withstand the test of time is a loving process and not a quick wham bam thank you mam event.

Ok, you're right...it's not completely different, but it is different. It is completely different though b/c of my previous sites niches vs. my current sites.

Of course social networking traffic is a start, but not the traffic some (and I) prefer.

    Anyways, back on topic....anyone?

You just figured it out. You need to get tips that pertain to your niche. You already know some general marketing ideas. Next, you need to figure out what to do in your specific niche.

put your site under a relevant subject on Wikipedia (external links). Of course, there's a high chance mods will take it down shortly but why not try.

    Some pretty simple ones.

    - Advertise it on your signature on this forum and on others
    - Write an article about competitors in your niche linking to their sites. With any luck - if those webmasters like what they see they'll link back.
    - Write a new article specifically for article sites and place a backlink back to your homepage.
