I don't think Paypal just lock your account for no reasons, there must be something that cause that to happen. What is the other side of the story ?

I'm pretty satisfied with Paypal so far, haven't had any problems.

I just remember losing money on a stupid deal and Paypal didn't help me get it back but anyways, I can't blame them for it.

Yep, if you are satisfied right now. But you cannot predict when they are going to lock your account for silly reasons.

    My worst Paypal incident:

A woman made about $100 purchase in March 2005. She paid via Paypal. I completed her order and shipped it out timely.

A 2 weeks or so later, she made another purchase for about $200. Again, I shipped it out timely.

About 9 months later (yes, 9 months!!!), I received a chargeback on my Paypal account for both orders! I couldn't believe it! I was never notified that there was any problem whatsoever with the orders.

I contacted Paypal and was notified that the woman had used the instant bank account transfer option. Well, she didn't have the funds in her bank account to cover either one of the purchases!

I inquired as to why it took 9 months for Paypal to notify me of the problem. I was told that they had been actively trying to collect on the bad bank account transfers. They finally gave up and turned it over to a collection agency. That is when they did the chargeback to my Paypal account.

If they would have notified me that there was a problem with the FIRST order, I would have never shipped the second order out. I would have only been out $100 instead of $300.

I just love how I was NEVER notified of any of this until I received the chargeback on my Paypal account, causing it to go into a negative balance.

At least with a regular merchant account, you as the merchant are in control of which credit card charges you wish to authorize for settlement!

All I can say is I am glad she didn't purchase more than she did!

I'm using Paypal for almost a year. And I still don't have problem. But what I observe is some people that posted this type of horror stories on Paypal is they have thousand of dollars in their account and the account is frozen. I suggest if you're transacting with few hundred or thousand of dollars try using some payment processor. I wouldn't want to risk my thousand of dollars to Paypal. :D

Basically, if you comply to the User Agreement which you agreed to when you signed up with Paypal, you should not face any problems.

People who get their account terminated usually are because they dealt with illegal transactions or set up their account illegally (such as pretending to be from a country they are not from, using fake method of verifying their accounts or not having their account verified).

I have used my Paypal accounts for quite some time now and never faced any problems. I do transfer thousands of dollars each month, spent thousands of dollars and received that amount.

I see a lot of people who are under 18, from non-approved countries, using fake details, keeping account perpetually unverified or not providing any bank account or credit card or using virtual credit cards which seems to be facing problems. For the rest of us who comply to the User Agreement, do not face any problem. Paypal is not stupid, they will get to you sooner or later if you try to bend the rules or ignore theirs.

You seems to be very happy with Paypal. Same as me but not all have the same experience with you. I know few people who follow Paypal TOS but still get their account frozen. But what I'm trying to say is not all is as lucky as you. But for me I haven't experienced any prob with Paypal for almost a year now.
