Well, I totally understand that acquiring blogroll or footer links is no longer of much value. However, I really hope acquiring links through article marketing and blog posts still work. This gives you relevant and meaningful content with your link. Or are these methods no longer organic enough?

Actually I have not create backlinks for my site for over a year now. And I am happy that I still have a number of pages ranking on Google's first page. Those pages are quite long articles/tutorials. My other niche sites are also ranking good without backlinks campaign yet. I am not bragging. I am just sharing. And because of it I may have to say that having a good content alone can bring you to top. Backlinks should only be a secondary priority.

Other people here have a point actually. Of course, if possible Google want to milk money from every website in the world by making them turn to Google Adwords campaign to generate traffic. If everybody knows SEO then their Google Adwords will not make millions of money.

Have you checked the competition for the keywords they are ranking for? I am sure they have little to no competition at all. That is how they are still on page one. Give me the keywords and I will show you my page in number one spot in 24-48 hours time. It is no big deal.

I don't feel bad about Google changing algorithm all the time. They're having to deal with serious spammers all the time and it must be a nightmare.

I know they tell us not to build backlinks at all – purposefully: but we can do it if we are careful and clever. We just need not to completely rely on backlinks to get traffic.

Well, we all know not to put all our eggs in one basket.

That's why today getting traffic for many of us is leaning much more towards actively engaging with people through having excellent content and chatting to people on social networks. Actually, is enjoyable exchanging views with people and as a side benefit we slowly but surely build up our traffic – naturally.

My ideal is where I get 10 to 15% of my traffic from Google, that's all. The rest I want to get from Facebook, Google plus, forum posting, genuine blog commenting, and this is traffic which will trickle in for years with no more effort after the initial efforts.

Google is dead! Long live Google LOL
