Normally windows hosting is costly then linux also sometime plesk give trouble in loading.
My vote for LINUX HOSTING............... :) cheap and secure.

only reason one should go for Windows is using ASP, for everything else there is Linux.

    Linux hosting is:
    1. Faster
    2. More secure
    3. Less expensive
    4. More flexible (more choices)
    5. Was designed for the internet (UNIX)

Unless you are programming in ASP(X) then there is no reason to have a windows server.

All I know is that with Wordpress, some people were having difficulty modfying the permalink structure of their site.

    The problem is with IIS.

Well, I'd never look at Win Hosting...slower and more resource intensive.

Windows is fast, I don't know where you heard slow. Windows is a slower desktop operating system, yes, but its server operating system I hear is great.

It's easy to use, easy to configure, and has a lot of support behind it...just like Unix and Linux.

It really depends on what you're going to be using your server for. If you need ASP.net, MS SQL, and general ASP, a Windows server would be the way to go. It is ideal for Microsoft applications and ASP.

The only flaw is that you're going to have to do a lot more updates to it than Linux or Unix, because it is such a widely-targeted operating system for hackers. It IS just as secure, you just have to keep it up to date.

I have no reason for a Windows server, so I'll stick to Linux. :)

    No.

Lockdown a windows server properly and most of the updates just don't apply.

    True... :)

    I would like to add that Apache can run ASP(x) pages as well using mod_aspdotnet [ http://sourceforge.net/projects/mod-aspdotnet ] OR ASP.NET - Mono [ http://www.mono-project.com/ASP.NET ]

LAMP is simply the best. :D
