Obviously I'm not a graphic designer or a web 2.0 guru, but I wanted to get some feedback on the colors and overall layout of this site. Tell me what should stay or go, and if something clearly needs to be added give me your 2 cents on that as well. Chad
it has a very mid to late 1990s look, IMO. Do keep trying, and always look at other great designs to get ideas.
I think I commented on your logo in another thread. For the layout, it's way too basic, you need some graphic elements to tie in all of your content together... something that's unique and appealing.
Alright, I made some small changes that I think made some BIG improvements on the overall design, however its still lacking something to "draw it all together" perhaps, a dark contrasting header and footer. Here are the changes I made: 1) No more rightside bar. It got tacky looking, so I removed it. 2) I removed the blue bg color from the heading in the center and changed the black sidebar headings to #f2f2f2 and gave them a top and bottom border. 3) I made the content font a little bigger. I went from 13px to 14px, not a big change, but I like it. 4) Aside from making the content font bigger, I also changed the color from black to #666666 5) I changed the sidebar backgrounds from #f2f2f2 to white. 6) I CHANGED THE LOGO. God I didn't know how 1997 it really did look until I revised this one. Hopefully this looks a lot better to you guys. Keep the suggestions coming, and definatley ideas on how to "bring it all together" Chad
I think it can be improved a LOT. ANd also since ur website is kind of a blog type....u can use install wordpress and use some really GOOD wordpress themes for ur site
I do plan on adding comments for articles and whatnot later on, but I don't think Wordpress is exactly what I'm wanting right now on this project, but thanks for the suggestion.
That Yuwie advert will get ignored because it doesn't match the colors of your site. Recolor it and repost it and it'll be visited. As for the logo, make it a bit bigger since that's all that's at the top. You should also consider having columns with different background colors (that still match), as that'll make the site look less 'vintage'.
I took all that out. Read my post a few up from yours, it lists the changes I made to the site thus far, trying my best to make it more up to date, or just go here www.surveygeyser.com
I don't think it's as simple as saying it will or won't be visited. You have two ways to go with it; either blend it in with your content with a similar colour scheme or purposely make sure it stands out by making ensuring the colours are different. Perhaps it would be useful to analyze the two different approaches? Different channel ID's for each colour scheme and a bit of scripting so that they alternate. Let them run for say a week and analyze the two different CTRs. It would be prove to be quite an interesting experiment
your logo is pretty good for a beginner if you don't have any experience in 2.0 design never mind.. but if you can make your menu same colors like your logo,I think it's good..that's my comment rating: 5/10
Not bad for a first attempt. Consider putting in a bit of gloss for the logo to make it more web 2.0 ish..!
Alright, I finally just handed over the design work to KillaKlown, as he has much more experience than I do. (I just started working with photoshop this month, had been using paintshop ever since, but I'm since converted...haha) Anyways, I thought I'd post this last and final revision, or at least for the time being. I tried following some of the advice given here the best I could and this is what I came up with, along with KillaKlown's logo design which really gave it some spunk I think. Thoughts and suggestions are welcome, but I don't think I'll be making anymore changes unless you can prove to me that they're REALLY needed as I'm liking this simple design.
too much text and not enough visual stimulation. looks boring. sorry to be blunt but someone needs to be honest. your best bet is to pay one of these people from india or something $3 and let them create you one.
