Hi there! Just wanted to make a quick post in relation to a subject that has captured my attention for many years; copywriting and design. Having trained in design and copywriting individually, the two subjects overlap and entwine themselves into every piece of work I complete. My question to you is whether you have found having a design or creative eye helpful when it comes to writing content. For instance, if you had to write copy for a new advertising campaign, would prior knowledge of the design side of advertising help you to come up with more suitable text? I would love to know your views! Thank you! Sam
That's an interesting question Sam. From the limited amount of design work that I've carried out, I've always found it a lot easier and natural to create something that is both eye catching and interesting to the user. I don't think you can do much harm by having a knowledge of both subjects!
Thanks for your reply! Yes, I completely agree with you there! I usually write down some words that are linked to the project, such as their aspirations or goals, before designing so that at the end of the creative process, I can go back and make sure I have covered everything that needed to be covered in my designs! Having both definitely helps
Each alphabet is a picture of a sound, remember? I give design instructions with my copy! And where I don't, I need to know the format or the structure (design) in order to optimize my copy. Basically, good design increases the impact of copy. I look for sound design aesthetics (if not skills) in my copywriters and web developers.
That's a very interesting idea! I love the reference you made to the alphabet! What kind if instructions do you give with your copy? Do you tell the clients where it needs to be placed and where it needs to be in relation to an image? Interesting concepts!
That's great! I'm so glad there are others that take into account a businesses objective! I find that it's something I'm very passionate about, but it seems to get over looked by many others!
