I keep hearing mixed reports from different individuals. So I want to ask the community as a whole. What do you all think? Do you feel do-follow blog comment links are a genuine way to lift Google SERPs?

I personally think that they aren't as effective as they used to be. As blogs have grown, so have the outbound links on them. With that, each and every comment takes a piece of the link juice. Especially when the do follow blogs get found out they generally receive many comments taking away from the link juice on the posts. So yes they can work, it will just take a larger effort than in the past.

Yep if it did not give nofollow attribute.
Beside that any link will have a chance that it will be clicked, so it will give traffic to your site

Blogrolls are a great start, and Google loves 'em. But really in essence blog commenting should only be small part of your link building effort.

they help, for sure. As the prev poster noted, a page with a ton of links on it is spreading its link juice rather thin, of course.

If you can find dofollow blogs with a lot of blog posts and top commentator plugin, that is the best. There was a time when I focus just on blog commenting with top commentator, and my blog reached PR3.
I made comments on Hubpages as well, on those hubs with hub score of 75 and above.
However, speaking from the standpoint of a blogger, I can tell that moderation is time consuming. I hate those spammers on both my dofollow blogs.

As long as you're not spamming with Scrapebox or something like that, they can be very valuable. You just need to leave quality contents and make sure they're relevant to your market and have high trust rank which you can find out at SEO Moz.

Any form of link building will help, from blog comments to directory submissions. The hardest part is doing this day after day. If you find you struggle with sticking to your plan consider outsourcing. Invest in your project and the rewards will follow.

Nevermind my previous post. I installed a firefox plugin that highlight all NoFollow links. Signatures only contains DoFollow's.

If its a good source and its not saturated with spam comments, it will help. Just watch out for bad blogs... And don't spam. If the owner is kind enough to let you leave a comment with a link, at least leave a valuable response.

i'm pretty sure it is still worth the effort. you get to exercise your mind in trying to post something useful, you get free publicity and a backlink even as little as it can be.
