Just be aware of any books, guides, gurus who are offering you a "insider secret" or some amazing new technique. As far as I have learned, the best way to get a good ranking on Google is to have a good website. Sounds obvious, but it seems to be true. As I mentioned in another post, I am in the top page (usually #2 or #3) for my industry which is very competitive. And I have a PR1 and very few backlinks. That will go against everything you read. I would work on developing the site completely and making sure your visitors are happy and will want to freely spread the word. They will get the job done for you faster than you ever can by yourself.
