I'm currently using DreamWeaver (new to php) but I'm sure there are programs there developed for the power of php. I just wanted to find out what programs do you use and would you suggest for new guys?

I mean, I can get by if I need to with just Notepad, but why go for that regularly? You might think you have street cred because you go without syntax highlighting, multi-file support, line numbering, and any number of additional features, but really you just look like a masochist.

Yea, Eclipse is another one, it's pretty popular. I don't like it myself, but it's definitely something to give a try. Notepad++ for me.

Try looking at "Rapid PHP" not sure what they are up to now but I have 2006 edition and it works a treat. It also has CSS and Javascript functionality and allows previewing. Pretty cheap too, it is made by Blumentals.

Ultraedit. There may be others better, but I'm just used to this one.

Eclipse, or NotePad++ for quick tasks. Never liked PSPad and definitely don't see how it could win "hands down".

started with notepad, I'll probably die with notepad :p

    Pure and simple.

Admittedly I use formatters for the source code of others when it gets all messed up in transit.

I find most of the programs that automatically make my code a rainbow of colors confusing.

I think its just habit what you use in the end.

Dreamweaver, i personally have grown to like the code side of it where it closes tags for you.

Wonders how many of those who haven't said Zend, have tried it?

I've tried almost all the others and Zend is far and away the best.

I initially liked the way dreamweaver handled databases.. Until I had to do something fancy, and I dreamweaver and I strated tripping over each others feet like a bad dance partner.
