Your own screenshots of Software, Websites etc. Legal?

    Are screenshots that you take of software or of websites illegal? (i.e. you capture a screenshot and use it).

    I think I know the answer but I have little legal background.

    Here's my best guess.

    It depends how you utilize said screen shots. Even though you took the screen shots, you do not own the items being photographed. In the case of software, you are merely "licensed" to use it.

    You might find the answer in the EULA.

    If you use your screen shots to promote a competitor, you can run into issues. Even if the law looks to be on your side, you will still need money for a legal battle.

    When in doubt, contact the company that owns the item. It is not only good legal practice to do so, it's ethical as well.
