what are all of your thoughts about this directory? http://www.dirjournal.com/ the price is hefty like $150 for a permanent listing . however, i'd rather pay 150 once rather than $20 per year as some dirs charge i'm looking for new york based directories and this one has http://www.dirjournal.com/regional/north_america/united_states/new_york/education/ ..that said, this url has a pr 0. the main question is..do you think i'd get a benefit for a search term that has 'new york' in it if i get my site listed there
The directory is known by many around here As far as the price goes, I think it depends on what you can and are willing to spend on a single directory submission. As far as internal page PR goes, the question I'd like to ask you is why you're so keen on considering internal PR as a submission criteria when it's merely a variable and may lose or gain its value on the next update?
someone would like to spend $100 on various web directories, if you can afford the fee for your business, don't miss yahoo and business dot com, otherwise don't put all your eggs at one basket.
for $150, I can get 1500 directory submissions or 1500 submissions to dofollow social bookmarking sites. any day, I would prefer 1500 links than 1 link from a single web directory.
Everything as its own prices. Someone would spend 10,000$ on a car while someone would spend 100,000$ Its what you can afford and spend from your pocket. As far as listing in directory journal goes, BUY IT! Comparing Directory Submissions with a listing from a Decent Paid Directory is a joke (LMAO)! Spend 1000$ on various decent paid directories rather spending 100$ on directory submissions done by crap companies which 'MAY' list your submission on a 9,999 page of a category in a crap free directory and the link never appears as backlink.
@alistair80 : I completely agree about the PR comment as I also feel that PR does not necessarily have a correlation to SERPS--don't know why i even made that comment... that said, if many members around here know that directory, what do you guys think about the dir? is it well respected? I'm assuming that it is ? @ WallaceYeung : we're definitely going to go with yahoo local..I'll check out bussiness dot com --the main thing that I am looking for is a directory that is well established and has a geographic based listings as I am trying to compete for a specific (and competitive) geographic niche. I am not interested in 100's of links to directories (I am a directory owner myself...so i'm not insulting directories in general ) I want several high quality geographically based links that will give my site greater importance to the Local Algorithms of google
It's on the expensive side for a directory that doesn't list any contact details. My concern would be, what happens if there's a problem with your listing and their email inbox is full? That said it looks nice, I've heard of it, and clearly a lot of thought has been invested in the design and content. That tends to suggest it won't be a here today and gone tomorrow, which is one thing you have to look out for when paying for "permanent" listings.
I am not related to dirjournal in any way or wanting to promote it. But they do have a contact page: dirjournal.com/contact.php In the case of email box full, I am sure a proper business module has enough funds and developed resources to cater the needs of a huge business population on the internet. But yes: A dedicated support system like; Chat or Telephone support should be added as pointed out.
You may like to review who all have already submitted their websites in category that you are interested in. If the category has no links - perhaps not worth investing $150 for a link at such place, check out if the particular page is cached by google and when was the page cached - if Google doesn't visit the place often - you are not going to get any traffic to your site - or gain any value. And last, if others have submitted in the same category - you may contact link owners to get feedback - and hear it straight from them. I have not submitted any links to this directory - so not in a position to give you advice as a link owner. HTH
If pr0 applies to the home page's PR, then I hear you simply becuase it implies that the directory might be one of the many here today gone tomorrow--at the very least it shows that it's a new dir-- but in general, I agree with alistair80, that PR is generally overrated. after all, it doesn't have a direct relationship to SERPS which is, in the end, all that i care about. what i want to do is gain 'geographic credibility' for the local algo's and i wonder if getting my site into a geographic niche inner page like www.dirjournal(dot)com/regional/north_america/united_states/new_york/education/ will give me that benefit.
Incase you worried about benefiting with Paid submissions, give a try of getting listed in proper related category of decent but low priced paid directories. If you see a sign of improvement, go full-fledged and carry on!
