Your opinion is appreciated on a choice between two names for a new project

    Hello,
I will be starting a new multiuser website about top lists (TOP 10 best payed actors, TOP 5 fastest cars, ...) and I hesitate between two choices now.

If you could give your opinion it will be appreciated as the two names for me are both not perfect and each has advantages and downsides.

    Best Reviewer
    or
    Best Tops

The site will be about Top lists, but the word review has more appeal for traffic.
I know I will use those words in the sites:
    best / review / top
so which ever domain name I choose is not perfect for keywords, but I'd like to have your opinion on the MARKETING side, that is which name of the two will have better effects on memory, image, etc.
I'm interested both by the effect on the visitors who will find the site in the search engine pages, the name should inspire trust enough for them to check the page. But also I'm interested in the image that it will give to the members of the site, because it'll be a multiusers site and they will be inputting most of the content (they'll be willing because of an adsense revenue sharing and referrals program)

I guess I'm just ranting now and any of the domain names could do, but if you want to give me your expert opinion on this, it will be appreciated, I'm not good at marketing but I know it is quite important.

    Cheers,
    James

To make it simple, what would you choose between best-tops.com and best-reviewer.com ? Thanks.

I would say best-reviewer.com because the other might confuse people who don't understand 'net lingo'. :)

    Hello,
Thank you all for replying. I have done a little keyword research yes, it appears to me that best in the name is the.. best :)
Because many people are looking for best PRODUCT X, and also for reviews, and a top list can be seen as a review of the items in the list.

But tops when I look for it, the common sense is either a tops toy for children or tops for women clothes.

Tops to me has no real value but reviewer is not exactly review either.

I'm divided on this. But it sounds like I should go with best-reviewer for sure.

About domain names, what happened is I first registered best-tops.com but after I changed my mind and registered best-reviewer.com
And now I have paid for them anyway, so I'd can't make up my mind just yet. I'm not against registered a third one if that's the one I'm going to use.
But all combinaisons of keywords I've tried are already taken, often just for domain name parking. I am not willing ot enter the domain name selling business, I'm sure they are always ways to find an available domain name at the standard price.
Tom Thumb, if I was not to use best and use list instead I would take list-review.com which is also available, but I feel best is a better keyword than list for what I want to achieve.
When my members will create tops about products I believe much more people will come to my pages via a search on "best product x" than "list product x"

Thank you again all for replying, I feel I'll start developing the site with best-reviewer.com althought like you Tom I'm not convinced on it too. I'm sure there's a better solution out there which I haven't found, but that's life :)

I've launched my new site two days ago and the launch went smoothly, if I can give someone a marketing advice it is that if you have something that works for you and you want to do another website, then do something similar, in the same domain, because you can then use content and userbase to speed up the initial stages of promoting your new site.
For instance, I have a userbase of about 6000 members, 4000 of those are also adsense publishers. For my new site I target only adsense publishers, so I am sending emails to those 4000 only, I do it at the rate of 500 per 24h so I can handle user feedback (email questions, user registration, etc.)
Since both my sites have also a referral program, I made a sub selection amongst the 4000, those who have referred over 5 members to the old site. It's about 200 emails. I've sent them a different email by offering them a special offer in exchange that they register on the new site and write an article on their blog/forum with their referral link talking about my new site.

After only 2 days (so 200 emails sent to referrers and 1000 emails sent to "normal" adsense publishers) the site is already filled with content and there are new articles popping up in many places on the web and new members referred (so not coming from my emails).

For me it's a success, when I launched my first adsense revenue sharing website in april 2009 I didn't have much emails to send to and I invested about $1000 in 2-3 months in order to get the first hundreds members and this money has been covered in about 4 month with the benefits from the site.
With this one, I feel it is going very much faster, and the site has no PR, wasn't even indexed by google until a few hours ago, has a very big Alexa rank, etc, etc.

So, if you have a userbase and you want to create another site, don't do something totally different, think about your userbase and what site you could do for them that would be even better or simply an addition to your other one, then when you'll contact them at launch time, they will respond positively and will speed up the start of your site.
