Your most valuable Google backlink

I recently got a DMOZ category listing for one of my sites and a Yahoo category listing.

The dmoz listing did sweet bigger all for my Google rankings (which is very surprising considering other sites I have that have suddenly ranked well from a DMOZ listing) but as soon as I got a Yahoo category listing, I jumped from 13th page for my number one target keyword to 2nd page on Google search results!

Anyone else have a killer backlink story they want to share that increased their Google rankings?

How long did you wait for the confirmation on DMOZ?

I bet it was 2 months...As for the Yahoo directory link -- I LOVE the link love from the big PR directories. My favorite links are from PR6+ blogs. These types of blogs are king at getting you link love.

thanks this is a great post. I realized when checking the yahoo directory that the sites in the niches there all have high pagerank...which means it is prob in large from getting listed there.

DMOZ don't guarantee you your listing, that's why you should resubmit you source any way, if you don't get listed after 2 months.

One tip, for DMOZ optimization --

Check to see the activity of the primary editor for the category you are submitting your site too. If the activity is high, you will likely receive a dmoz listing quickly. If not, then look around the editor forums to get a hold of the editor or network your way through the forums in order to get you listed. The primary category's editor above the category you are going for should be able to help you get a listing quicker, if he/she is so inclined to do much activity on DMOZ. Many of the editors are not active, look for the active ones.

Don't quite understand how DMOZ and Yahoo D works, but I have submitted 2 or 3 times without any luck.

The site I think I'll get rid of all ads and create a ton of original content before submitting.

My most valuable Google backlink(s) would have to be Yahoo dir listing (got it free) and I 'used' to have a link from www.bbc.co.uk but they have taken the whole section down on there site so thats now gone, I had a link there for about a year though :)

I hear that DMOZ will not consider site that have many advertisement, so I think if you want your site listed in DMOZ you must clear your advertisement just for temporay
