I need to get some ideas for a site I am going to get designed and was wondering if anyone had any examples of sites they really like?

I want to give some examples to my designer.

Have some focus. What kinds of sites are you looking for? For a serious business, look at bank and insurance sites. For kid stuff, look at kid sites. For companies who use lots of colour and multi-gazillion-dollat ad campaigns, just check out the websites of any large company who spends waaaay too much on stuff like websites.

Here's an interesting (and prolly took them really long to do) design: http://www.truereligionbrandjeans.com/

Here's one I think looks nice, quite, restful yet with flavour (what you'd want a wine site): http://www.gorge.com.au/

And when you have no content and no purpose in life: http://www.virtualstapler.com/

I would not recommend the CODING in any of these sites. Most use waaaay too much Flash, frames, super-nested tables, and other crap. But the design is beautiful.

Thanks for the examples, some of the sites on http://www.cssremix.com are amazing, really well designed, clean and give a look of quality.

Stomme poes, I know what you mean about those sites you mentioned, there's just too much going on in terms of coding etc but the design is interesting. I have some ideas now so thanks guys.

For outstanding designs, look for anything made by Nick La from NStudio.

Havent you noticed that when you goto bank sites they are very similar, if you goto music band sites they are very different from other sites. Its not any coincdence that many big sites do not have cool designs. Yes some of the above look cool on the eye for a short time.

Anything with flash annoys me straight away. I think logos and icons can make a big difference without getting too carried away. I love hicks work http://www.hicksdesign.co.uk/

Yeah, there are sites that sell and sites that look amazing from a designers perspective.

Sites that sell range, but this is a good example (for the record, it's not my site):

mm, that isn't what I was looking for... it's sort of "semi-fluid" since the content is still wrapped in a fixed size.
