There are so many webmaster profiles on the Internet and most of them are pretty boring. What about yours? Do you have a clever or unusual about me page? What are some tips you have for a new guy (like me) to make an "About Me" page that someone will want to read?
My suggestions is just to make it to the point and honest. I also suggest using a real photo of yourself (something that I still don't do), and ending with your contact information. How your "About" page is designed is less important as what it say's. Don't over exaggerate your resume or experience. Don't talk about personal stuff unless it's relevant. Just make it as if you are applying for a job...Honest and direct.
I took your advice. I included my name, age, email address, subjects I'm comfortable writing about, another field for subjects I have experience or some form of credibility in, a short blurb about myself, and ended with my introductory rates. I think I'm taking a little bit of a risk with this blog because I'm considering it personal/professional. I'm covering the basics and I'm planning on including articles about my work, but I'm also including articles about people and things I am passionate about and those kinds of entries might turn some people off.
I tend to brag a bit in mine (hey, i have stuff to brag about!) .. i included "my story" (short version), and i think the layout is original when compared to many other blogs.. sorta.. Take a look: About Me
Just be honest - people can tell if you are giving them bull. Where you've been, what you do. You're right in saying you gotta make it different though!
It's just an about page, design it to show who you are! Some people add photos and videos of themselves, bios, how they founded their website, etc... I try to design mine to give the most information to visitors as possible
I like to inject a little humor into my about me page. Nothing rude, corny or snarky but something that will make people realize that I am human and that I have a sense of humor.
I think you can write your about me page like your Resumes to apply a job... but, make it easy to read.. don't make too formal sentences.. give it some humors, it will make readers feel near with you..
I think you also have to remember it's marketing piece all the same. Could mine the difference between a long time reader and a fly-by.
I just love all cool 'About Me's I think Darren rowse of problogger.net and mani karthik of dailybloggr.com has got an amazing about me.
Advertise yourself so you look real and approachable. If they see you saying nothing, then they will have a bad impression anyway.
Just put a little biography of you and a picture like I did here - http://www.lilwaynehq.com/about Also, add your social network pages
