Actually, I've had the occasional success with 7Search as an advertiser, even in the gambling market. But it was hard work getting there and I had to do days of research to find partners that ranked well in the search engines.

As a rule of thumb, this is how I use the second and third tier PPC engines. Hope this will be useful for someone:

    i) I get together my list of 200-300 search terms. I search Google, Yahoo, MSN, Ask to see which sites on the first or second page of results are using PPC listings.

ii) From that list, I check the PPC suppliers - 7Search, Miva, Mirago, etc to see if I can figure out where they get their best paying listings from.

iii) I click a few ads on these sites to see which search terms are being used in the listings.

To clarify: I may have searched Google for 'men's christmas gifts' but the site I find is full of Mirago advertisers bidding on 'christmas gift'.

iv) Having found high ranking sites using the 2nd and 3rd tier PPCs, I sign up at those PPCs and bid on the search terms they are showing on their pages.

Using this technique, you can still find lots of opportunities with 2nd and 3rd tier engines.

If I'm not clear, just post here and I'll try to be as specific as I can. I don't mind sharing this technique - I've been using it for four years.
