Your directory accept casino,sex or,gambing site ?

If visitor submit those site to your directory and would like paid,do you accept?

 

Adult sites are absolutely not acceptable for any general web directory unless it's an adult directory.
You must let people know the submission guidelines if your directories reject gambling websites and refund to us.

 

I accept Gambling and casino links on my bidding directories.
Do not accept these on General Directories.

General directories should accept everything, that's why it's called general. For example, Dmoz, botw accept everything. I do as well

 

You must add the warning messages that people under 18 is not allowed to visit your directory if your directory accept adult sites.
I am not sure whether dmoz accept adult content or not.
I do not agree that general web directory should accept any kind of websites.

 

If gambling and Porn content is accepted to general directories. They must be a warning pop up attached when entering to site. Therefore, it will reduce number of visitors.

 

I only accept gambling submissions to one of mine and only through moneybookers (now called skrill i think) only had one submission though because for a long time i wouldn't accept gambling sites and would reject and refund them.

I dont accept porn sites and have never had one submitted seriously, adult webmasters use slightly different approaches anyway, i would accept sites related to sexuality, whether they are discussion, sexual health, community, as long as they are not displaying ads for porn, escorts or sex toys or similar.

Ive often wondered why directory owners (i used to do this too) would state "no child pornography" in the submission guidelines, i found it simply unnecessary, you are simply not going to receive a submission like that.

It depends on the country, gambling laws differ around the world, gambling here in the UK is widespread.

I'm pretty sure that most people cruising the internet will not come across general directory sites let alone under 18s who are far more likely to be interested in Facebook and such. Why do general directory owners believe that they should censor the internet. Last time I looked sex and gambling are a part of general life.

To each their own.

 

Its not about censoring the internet, its about losing paypal accounts and putting off other submitters, some sites simply wont want their site listed in a directory that has gambling or porn in other categories.

Porn sites for example might be linking to some types of sites that ae not good to associate with, they might also be getting links that are not the type that you want, by listing a site like this its associating you with it, even if indirectly.

Some directory owners refer to their directory as "family friendly" so they need to limit what they accept.

In reality, huge amounts of kids access porn etc, the directory owner isn't trying to protect them from material, just avoiding problems with taking payments and not wanting to scare away other paying submitters.

 

As I say, it is up to the individual. I don't accept porn sites or sites linking to porn. But I accept other sites that I regard as "Adult". They have been categorised under Adult. I'll refuse a site because I don't like a certain product. As for gambling, maybe it's illegal in some countries but it's very legal in my country.

I'll take the risk that most people submitting to directories are mature enough to recognise that sites listed in other categories won't be associated with their site.

 

I agree that its up to the individual, you will refuse a site because you dont like a certain product? Like for ethical reasons or simply because you dont like it?

Something to keep in mind regarding what you accept: Is it wise to keep a few people happy and accept their money and put many more potential customers off. Its a bit like feature requests in web applications, adding lots of features to an app because they were requested can lead to a bloated app that people end up hating or never using most of the features.

So when accepting a site im thinking how will this affect the directory, how might it influence other submitters in the future.

 

Yep, I'm the boss, make a decision and refunds are given when submissions are rejected.

 

Obviously general directory will not accept those things. Probably they will reject it if they are casino sites.

 

3 years ago we stopped accepting adult and gambling sites and immediately return the money if someone adds such sites. I often get such a letter: "I have found in your directory of such sites, why can not I add more?" Previously adopted adult and gambling sites, now spoil the reputation of the directory.

 

Joeant and most of other big directories accept gambling sites, and their paypal account was never suspended. Your paypal account can be suspended if gambling is illegal in the country where you opened your PayPal account (USA), and you accept gambling sites in directory.
