    Results 1 - 10 of about 249,000,000 - Position 6

I think that's pretty sweet, although I'm still pretty new to this so someone come back and shock me. :)

difficulty is not about how many pages in the serp its about how many people are trying to get to the top of it, and how good they are at it.

we currently have a #3 out of 118 million (on a blogspot blog :) ) ..non competitive, but outranking the Microsoft main domain for their own product...
    google "microsofts free websites"

but this is much more of an achievement, (for a 7month old website) currently #4 out of 3.6 million..
    google search "business seo"

my best was in yahoo when with a squidoo lens in ranked #2 for a term that showed something like 1,000,000,000 results - it was like 2008 movies or a term like that :)

Currently sitting at number 3 of 533,000 for a single word search.. that fluctuates down to about 6 or 7..
I used to be solid number 4 for that word, and would get about 100 - 300 hits a day for it.. then I dropped to between 50 and 100 in one of them Google dances that lasted about 2 or 3 months :(

I Slowly crept back up.. got to the front page about a week ago, just in time to see the actual site this word refers to get dropped from Google's index.. (not sure what they did)
So now when people search for the site, expecting it to be the first on the page, they can't find it.. so I am currently getting around 800 to 1000 hits a day from that 1 word :D They don't stay long.. just long enough to have a quick look then bounce back out.. Around 3% bounce out by way of one of my strategically placed ad links though ;) So I am cool with that.

    Hope it keeps up

    Cheers
    James

'no of pages in the serps' isn't a good measure of success...

I have a page that is no 1 out of only 525,000 and gets 2,000 visitors every day, and pages which are number 1 for searches with 20,000,000 results and get only a few hundred visits a day

the first type is the page to try and get - lots of visits, little competition - rather than always struggling against loads of competitors

Ok, looks like some people have missed the point of the thread.
This isn't about CTR ar ROI so how godly your keyword is, that doesn't even come into it for this thread.
It's just to see who ranks high for a popular keyword and popular=many search results in my eyes.

Nice one James, that's what I'm talking about.
Just being there in the top 10 can provide some great opportunities.
