I've written some javascript that I'm going to offer to others for use on their sites to show content from my site. As an example i have created a look up page for numerology information for famous people which can be delivered by placing a small peice of javascript on any webpage. My question is... am I allowed to put google ads on it? I already offer this in an iframe would this be treated the same?.... can't find anything in the tos - i guess the question lies with the delivery of ads point in code modification... any advice is appreciated. Thanks
I don't see how its any different tan the ad revenue sharing program, or the adsense for feeds program. If you're not sure, always better to CYA and ask them.
I was going to do the same thing and I wrote G to ask. They told me it was ok but reminded me that I was responsible for the content on the sites the ads were displayed on. So if someone with a porn or poker site adds your code to their site you can get banned for inapprorpriate content. Of course, this is not a substiture for asking them directly, things have a way of changing and it is always better to go to the authority. I think it is a great idea and could work with all sorts of syndicated content, daily cartoons come to mind immediatly. If you require sites to first register their url with you and your code only works for approved domains or pages you might be able to limit the risk. Alternativly, you could simply include a link to your site with the package and just use it as a traffic driver but keep the ads on your site.
From Terms and Conditions. Not sure if this applies to your situation or not. Sounds like it would be a problem if the other site also used Adsense.
good point ahearn - that might be the clincher?... not sure how to find a work around for that one? Most of the folks that use my "daily horoscope/numerology" information just want to come in grab the code and go, and are discreet -some of my keyword competitors have my code (it's a great way to get a link from a competitors site) ... more thinking needed... thanks guys for the answers
Well, you can always ask permission from Google. Perhaps they won't have any problem with it. Have you considered perhaps including a ad for your own site instead of Adsense ads... that way you might be able to lure more people away from the competition
Their terms of service says you shouldn't display Adsense ads on another site if the sites where your ads are showing belong to another adsense member. You can contact them just to make sure.
This is what I would recommend doing as well. Plus, ensure the link is displayed as a part of the content and not as a part of the code that the user places on their site. This way users displaying your content can't stop that link from being displayed. For each site that uses our content, you get another link back to your site with more traffic. And you wouldn't have to worry about where the content is being placed.
