Selling Young Travel Site With Tons of Original Content

The goal of DiscountAttractions is to provide visitors on a budget a fully user-edited site for discovering great things to do in a new city, while making it as affordable as possible. The site content and functionality is similar to TripAdvisor, but I have placed a heavy focus on providing videos for each attraction as well as hours, prices and discounts where available.

The site is young (8 months) and doesn't have much traffic or any real revenue yet, however what it does have is a TON of original content. Over 2,300 attractions have been hand entered, completed with photos, videos, hours, prices and discounts where possible with original hand-written descriptions on most. It also has several well written articles that have done very well on social media and over 320 real reviews from US visitors.

The logo and website were professionally designs and Photoshop and Illustrator files are available. The code is a custom written Node.js app with a MySql backend, no third party platforms are used. This is a solid foundation for building a real business around for anyone interested in starting a quality travel website.

As much as I hate to, I am selling this site because my day job responsibilities have increased since starting it and I don't feel that I'm going to be able to continue to put in the time to build this out right. The ongoing expenses are pretty much non-existent now that the initial development and data entry has been completed, but those were somewhat high. I'm just hoping to recoop those expenses in selling this site. Revenue hasn't been a major pursuit so far, but they key to success will be to find the right hotel/airfare booking affiliate program and drive visitors to those actions as well as finding affiliate programs for key discount programs out there such as Entertainment Book and City Pass. What are you selling for 19k? Traffic? Earnings? 3 character domain?

 

No, it's not based on a multiple of earnings. The traffic and the domain name are components, but not major ones. The price is primarily for the very large amount of original hand written content. The $19,000 BIN price is the amount it would take to fully re-coop my expenses so far, but the bidding starts at $5,000.
